    We get that one on a frequent basis for a machine we no longer have.
    We do not have a mobile phone so a land line is necessary and we are really not looking forward to when the facility is discontinued.

      Got this email last week, showing my entitlement to an inheritance. Quite an eye watering amount they are trying to sucker me in with ! I do hope I really don't have a great Aunty moneybags who has just passed away in PalmSprings.:heehee:

        We had something similar a few years back and we now own a lovely little island in the South Pacific. We do special holiday deals and also offer a one month all expenses paid five star experience, worth £20,000, for the winner of our annual lottery. Lottery tickets are only £100.                 Just a couple of reminders on scams:- this is a good time of year for scammers.

                There's a very authentic BT looking letter going around saying that 'We want to keep you up to date' and mentions your current out of contract price. For some people that amount can be quite right as they don't have that many different rates.

                On the back of the letter they give you a number to call that isn't an authentic BT number. This letter looks exactly like the proper BT one except for a couple of things.
                It's addressed to 'Valued Customer' and not the name of the account holder.
                It doesn't have your account number (not phone number), and the date, at the top right of the letter.

                Phone BT on 0800 800 150 (their accounts number) go through the usual press this number etc. and tell them that you wish to report a possible scam. Then ask them if your account is up for renewal.

                For phoney emails you can forward them to the appropriate organisation:-

                [email protected]
                [email protected] for any form of scam by email - and can also do a written report by email, with details, if you get it by any other means.

                For anything purporting to be from a large company you can go to their website to find their phishing email address to report it to.

                  A phone call today from an Irish number informing Mr S that one of our bank cards had been breached and please press 1 or 2 to respond. Of course he didn't and then contacted our bank to check. All is well and the number has been passed on for investigation.

                    @shiney Snap! I just did that yesterday! I had a phishing email from "Bell" telling me my app needed updating as I was not receiving all of my messages. I forwarded it to [email protected]

                    Some of these are pretty sneaky and look genuine until you check out their grammar!

                        Today hubby answered the phone to someone at a Indian call centre. Said that we were having troubles with our broadband from BT. Hubby said to the person, that's strange because we don't have BT for that, then hubby hung up.

                          There are scams going around where you'd get a call from "Microsoft" or maybe your internet provider or computer manufacturer who will tell you they have received error messages on your computer and they'll ask you for remote access to fix it. Microsoft, your internet provider or the manufacturer will never call you out of the blue.

                            I love getting those if I have time to spare to wind them up @Sheal :biggrin:
                            We used to get them at work, and it was always a laugh playing along with them, but I had to loudly inform our boss one day that it was a scammer, and to hang up, when it was clear who she was talking to. She was falling for it hook line and sinker.
