The plant's main priority is to grow a strong root system before putting effort into growing above ground.

I planted Glen Moy many years ago and didn't see a single shoot for 16 months! Then they were coming up everywhere.

I assumed all mine were complete failures and planted other fruit bushes in the space. So possibly I'm going to end up with a fruit fight!
I can see fruit forming on my gooseberries and blackcurrants for the first time though so that's exciting.

Nothing has happened to mine either, it appears some of them started leafing when bare root and the leaflets died :( my gooseberries are all slowly coming out though!

I think I have a flower on a blackberry plant. And had one ripe honeyberry - so not all doom and gloom!

My Glen Coe has just started sending up its first shoot since I snipped it! I'm relieved I didn't kill it after all. Hoping it'll send a few more shoots up though.

No word on if the 'cuttings' are rooting yet, but I presume I won't find out until next year.

Marshalls Garden has canes on sale still, for pretty cheap. The gooseberries I bought from them all turned up alive so seems trusty. I think ill get some since even if the previous ones eventually come up theyll still pay themselves off eventually :dbgrtmb: anyone heard of the "paris" cultivar?
