Just came across 'opprobrium'. Never heard of that one before.

    It's a useful one @Jenny_Aster . There's so much deserving of it.

I do wish people wouldn't call little babies 'new-borns' ... it depersonalizes them and makes them sound like sheep :frown:

That sounds horrible :frown: They are little babies - human beings and there's no need to have words like that to describe them. I don't understand why they can't be called babies.

I completely agree with you, but that's the word for them. You've posted in a thread about words, not about words you dislike. :spinning:

As far as I'm concerned the word for them is 'babies'

I did think there was a thread for annoying words but I can't find it,
And anyway the name of this thread is 'Words' - it mentions nothing about what type of words ... and in the first comment BB3 has said she'd be interested in words that annoy us,
and there are some posts here about such words.

I shall leave now, I'm not an argumentative person so I'll leave.

What age range does the word baby cover? The care requirements of a new-born baby differ substantially from that of a baby of a year plus, so I would imagine that’s the reason some folk use the term ‘newborn’.

But don’t get me started on the term ‘fur-baby’ … I’m afraid I’m repulsed by it … I’ve had many pets and loved them all to bits, but for me the term ‘fur-baby’ conjures up an horrific image of some kind of mutant. Is it just me?

Sorry, I didn't think I was being argumentative, certainly didn't mean to be.

Utterly nauseating, IMV, so definitely not just you. But pets are big business so my guess is the tendency to try to make people believe they are something that they are not will grow and grow.

The title is deliberately ambiguous. Post what you like

My uncle Nate wouldn't have liked that as it would imply he was Paleonate :rolleyespink:
