Apparently fast music makes you drive faster.

 

Are there any credible studies to back this up?

 

I can't judge what's credible but there's plenty of stuff on Google. I did say ' apparently '. That's like allegedly apparently.

 

There's cruise control for the long stretches @BB3. Music doesn't have to be fast for driving, just has to engage you.

 

Nah...an absence of radars and speed bumps and good music makes you drive faster but only if the road and weather conditions permit

 

I asked because the only 'study' I've encountered was on an old episode of a motoring programme that was not Top Gear. They tested multiple drivers of multiple age groups multiple times, each time listening to a different style of music. They actually found the high energy rave music made no significant difference, but actually made the drivers very slightly slower.

I think the point of the experiment was to test an idea that seems obvious and is widely accepted, but had not been properly studied. They proposed a hypothesis that the correlation between younger drivers and music preferences might have resulted in the widespread but incorrect conclusion that the music was the cause, when in fact it was just that the music happened to be fashionable among younger drivers who might drive more recklessly.

Remember the adage, correlation does not imply causation.

 

I will continue to play loud, fast music whilst keeping to the 20mph limit,then. That's assuming that in London, you can actually reach that dizzying speed.

 

There's lots of classical music that is loud and fast! It's more a problem that over the course of a symphony, say, you get both loud and fast and quiet and slow, so you have to keep altering the volume to hear it over the road noise.

 

That's why classical doesn't work @ViewAhead, especially on concrete motorway surfaces!

 

Bach's Magnificat passes the motorway rumble test. As does much of Beethoven's 9th.

 

Interesting @ViewAhead. I have both so can try them on Sunday when I'm dragging OH off to the Pornic area - 100 mins minimum away - to go garden visiting with L'Asphodèle garden club. First have to get them on my driving USB.
