What are we doing in the garden 2024

Only had time to sow some more wallflower seeds.

 

Lot's of watering and sowing cosmos seeds... Oh and planting out beans.

 

Potted on cosmos, watered pots and did a bit of weeding. Spotted first flowers on Clematis westerplatte.

We've had a hedgehog visiting the last few nights so I've taken to feeding him/her. He's a good size but I want him to stay, so he has a bowl of cat food (that my actual cats are gawping at through the window ) and a bowl of water.

 

Replaced fleece on the brassicas, peas and salads with netting as we are forecast some warm sunny weather, hoed them at the same time. Found a kitchen knife I lost last year in the compost bin. Took some chilli's and aubergine to the allotment greenhouse

 

My bare root plants from Farmer Gracy turned up yesterday evening, so they have been put to soak and can be potted up later. Considering planting out my beans too, they're reaching for the sky. And maybe putting some of my tomatoes in their final pots. Dog and I are off to a scentwork competition this morning though, so it will all have to wait.....

 

I've been moving some pots around to see what effect various amounts of sun have on some of my Hostas. Already I can see that the ones that I relocated a few weeks ago now have better coloured leaves than last year. Unfortunately a tiny snail has also been showing its appreciation, but it's now gone on a speedy flight next door.

I've also been on pigeon watch to stop them doing some lawn seed detection work after my recent efforts, plus either early morning or late evening watering to keep the reseeded patches moist as we've had some lovely sunny, dry weather.

 

Has anybody ever scattered ashes (human) in their garden?
If so, are there any plants/trees that would not appreciate a sprinkling?

 

The ashes should contain nutrients that would be useful for all plants.

No, should be like Blood, Fish and Bone, I guess.

 

Thank you @Punkdoc , I'm collecting my Mum's ashes today and will probably scatter her in my garden.

 

Busy finding yet another path that the plants want to grow all over. Now have a clear run!
Cutting back some of the nettles that are encroaching on some new plantings and then cutting back the grass from around many of the fruit trees in the orchard.
What a beautiful sunny warm day again.

 

Moved some more overwintered plants out of the greenhouse, sowed some more chitted sweetcorn. Checked on the germinating squashes, cucumbers and melons.
Weeded a graveled area and a flowerbed. As usual the large Kniphofia is playing host to a vast number of snails, removed the dead foliage and dealt with the 4 snails munching the fresh shoot out of a mahonia, hopefully the drier weather will deter such Alpine escapades.

 

Faffing all done now so I'm off to plant out som ebeetroot seedlings and re-sow some tomatoes as mine are not thriving. I don't think it's the compost as other seedlings are doing well but it may be from using butt water that's been sitting there all winter so i'm going to try again with fresh tap water.

After that maybe some weeding in the dahlia bed and tea making with the nettles going mad in there now i don't need them to protect the young shoots from cold bits.
