@Badly_Maintained, your post about that absolutely wonderful job that you do brought a tear to my eye. Such lovely, lovely gestures and I can only imagine the happy faces of those little people. My bestie and I, when on our Food Bank stint, always sneak extra treats into the bags when we know that there are young children in the house. It does make us realise how lucky we are - and have been through our lives. Keep up the good work! You are a :star:

What a thoughtful and compassionate thing to do @Badly_Maintained

Anyone else got the ‘white fluff’ dancing about? I forgot to mention yesterday - it’s everywhere! Poplar trees I think.

          Good morning folks.

I am glad to read that everyone is happy enough with their lot. It is sunny here too, but a fair breeze. Keeps the clouds away.

Normally today, tomorrow and Monday are the Ice Saint Days when we could get that late frost, but the weather forecast is very clement. So .....

....I have finished planting my vegetable garden although the last efforts were practically on hands and knees, I was determined to plants all the plants. Ideal weather for it - strike while the iron is hot!! So I have been taking it easy. On Monday, I will start getting out the supports for the tomato set up. I have around 40 tomato plants - everything I sowed came up!! Peppers, cucumbers, aubergine and courgettes are all in!! Yes!! Some R & R til Monday. Just some hot peppers to be planted next week.

Whilst I think of it (probably on the wrong thread) but insurance, ground rates and council taxes have all gone up a lot - in fact - a lot!!!

Enjoy your Saturday and this fine weather.

Afternoon everyone from a very sunny and pleasantly warm (24C) Istria in Croatia.
It’s early in the season, so not particularly busy and everything is lush and green with many wild flowers. The sea is crystal clear and it’s all rather beautiful. Thank you @Ante1 :)

@steephill - I was sorry to read of your health problems. Sounds like you’ve been very well looked after. Hope you can enjoy the rest of your holiday.

@Dovefromabove - best wishes for a speedy recovery for your MIL.

@Dordogne Damsel - best wishes to your friend / partner as well. Such a worrying time for you.

@PatE - hope you can keep driving for as long as you feel able to do so. My MIL is 90 in Feb and still driving. She only drives during the day and only within a 10 mile radius of home. She would stop immediately if she was concerned about her abilities and often asks us to assess her.
I’d hate to see her have to stop. Such a loss of independence for just nipping to the shop or golf club to see old friends.

Apparently the Nthn Lights display at home were quite stunning last night (seen some photos from neighbouring village today). Bit of a bummer to have missed it. However, we’ve been enjoying some glorious sunsets over the sea. Swings & roundabouts!

@AuntyRach, your post made me stop and think. I don't think I have any poplars near me - plenty of ash and sycamore though.
Right, off to pot up some Mini Munch cucumbers - they were actually mentioned on Beechgrove last night. My first attempt at growing any sort of cucumber.

Morning all, 8:45 am here. Rained all night.
Going to an Estate Sale today, near by town. Lots on the list in the advertisement. We shall see if anything I need or some surprises. Mostly roam about looking to see if I actually want to stay for the item to get on the block.
                Take care all.

I was at a postcard and collectors fair this morning. Abandoned home early(ish) today, and left my wife behind, making the house clean and tidy. Her choice. She could have come too, but turned the opportunity down.

Now, a couple of (dozen) postcards later, and my bank account a little lighter, I'm home again to survey my purchases.

                  Edited to add.
Actually, three dozen postcards!! It's so easy to find oneself with this number, without realising it.

Are the postcards of castles @RowlandsCastle? I know that is a particular interest of yours. I have got my cucumbers planted in bigger pots now. I need to find out what I have to do with them in terms of support etc. when they get bigger.

I grew cucumbers a few years ago @Ladybird4 . Back in the days when I was working. Seem to remember that when they were going full steam they visibly grew about an inch each day in the 8 - 10 hours I was away at work.
Rewarding plants to grow from that point of view.

Yes @Ladybird4 they are of castles. Mostly. Plus a steel print from 1817. A couple are for my wife.

Good luck with the cucumbers. I've never tried growing them, but was unsuccessful at courgettes. Of course, that was at our old house.
But, anything we grow, will probably need protection from the birds.

Let’s just give the outdoor table a quick coat of paint… now we ‘have’ to do the chairs. And my little coffee table. And may as well do around the trellis…

Good evening. I've not in much as with the good, warm weather I'm out first thing with a cuppa and then gardening, relaxing, reading there!
It's pleasing to read of successful ops, trips and the enjoyment of sunshine.
Have a lovely evening and may the rest of your weekend go splendidly.:spinning:
