    Hi,

Ive got some Sun Gold and Costoluto plants. (although theyve been mixed up so I dont know which are which!)

Ive got a few raised beds which I could utilise, however Ive just bought a plastic greenhouse, so Im think this may be more suitable for tomatoes?

I also want to make use of some containers/pots that I have. Do you think these are big enough for tomatoes?

Or would I be better off getting grow bags. (although grow bags never seem big enough! So I presume theyd be)

Im keen to get these tomateos planted as theyre starting to get pot bound.

    Thanks

I think they are plenty big enough but I'm not an expert. But I would be careful of how much weight the shelves in your greenhouse will bear, especially with the terracotta ones. Or are they plastic - I'm not sure from the picture?

Don't worry too much about them getting pot bound - they'll soon sort themselves out when planted.
Mine were in very small pots until they were about 1ft, the leaves were pale and going purple - I planted them in the g/house border on saturday and they're already looking much healthier.

The greenhouse would be your best option, but they can get VERY hot in summer, so keep the doors open unless is chilly.
Pots are better than grow bags and yours aren't too small.

You can tell the difference between the varieties when the flowers appear.
The Consoluto will have double flowers and the Sungold single flowers.
Don't feed at all until the first tiny tomatoes appear.

I use relatively small pots for mine - they were bought as "tomato buckets" - not as big as a regular household bucket. Grow bags are apparently better cut in half across the middle and each half stood upright on its end so you have two deeper half-bags, rather than laid flat and planted into the top.

Ive planted four of my tomatoes and put them in the greenhouse. Ive got another 3 to pot.

Do you think Im cramming too many tomatoes into this green house? My concern is if theres not adequate space, Ill get black rot etc...

WHat do you think? I suppose I could put the other plants outside in a veg bed, but I think the wind will get them. :|

Mine illustrate that very well - all "Outdoor Girl", and sown at the same time. On the left, planted out today after being in a coldframe in small pots since the beginning of the month. On the right, all the same conditions except I planted them out last weekend.
And in the second photo, same again but planted out first day or two of May. I then watched Gardener's World and Monty said it was far too cold to plant anything outdoors, I checked for my area and I was supposed to wait until now. 2024-05-18_13-43-27_cropped.jpg 2024-05-18_13-43-56_cropped.jpg
