Who was it many years ago talked about the paperless office, ever since then people have been downloading and printing everything thing in triplicate.

I got a prescription from the hospital the other day, it was written on a form that looked like it was designed in 1947 at the start of the NHS and it came with two carbon copies.

 

Printer companies got greedy a few years ago. I don't know if they still do it because they were publicly and loudly called out for it just a few years ago, but they certainly went through a phase where your printer ink having run out didn't actually mean it had physical ran out. Instead, the printer driver software would keep a record of how much ink had theoretically been used, and would then decide it had ran out based on the record of what was printed, rather than physically how much or little ink was left. Some of the geek forums shared info as to how you could magically resurrected your 'empty' ink cartridges for a while by messing around in software. Of course it wasn't magic, once you're ink had really run out you couldn't magically convince it otherwise, but people were reporting they still had upwards of 10% or more ink when the software decided you were out.

 

We too don't print at all these days. Having the ability to print to PDF, getting all receipts electronically saves me a lot of time and I guess money. Last time I did need printer ink I bought a new printer as it was cheaper! Awful waste I know.

 

I turn my paintings into Birthday cards and Christmas cards for people so I have to have a printer for that.
I made a Get Well card for a friend last week. People seem to prefer them to 'shop' ones.

I thought we'd gone metric and now had to buy things in tens and fives instead of dozens and half-dozens,
I've even seen eggs in packs of ten,
but yesterday I bought some Wispa bars, and it was a pack of 9 !
Why 9 ? That's cheating ! I don't think I'll buy them again, I can manage without Wispa bars.

 

We have our own eggs at the mo but in the SM I can, if needed, buy them in boxes of 4,6, 10 or a dozen @Mic.

In markets, I can buy some fresh veg by the "livre" or pound - 450g.

In DIY shops, can buy 2 x 4 and 4 x 4 wood posts tho I see more and more metric measures now. Hosepipes and fittings come in imperial sizes not always expressed in mm tho lengths are metric.

Can't get charity Xmas cards here so, as our stock has all gone now, I've started making my own using a form of embroidery as commercial cards here are expensive and not wonderful.

I use our printers a lot - the HP for scanning documents to send via email and the Epson for printing info sheets and tutorials for patch club. 3 of our older ladies have no PC and a few have no printer.

 

A bit more costly (or perhaps not with the cost of ink) @Michael Hewett is to use Moonpig or the likes where you can upload your pictures as the card. We do this at Crimbo for family cards when I think 6 or more cost less. You can have these sent to you to write out and they include envelopes.

 

We use our printer quite a lot.OH has her own business, so needs to print a lot.
I print very little, but occasionally need to print hospital letters, otherwise I'll forget stuff.
I have a collection of old postcards and prints. Sometimes I print off details of my new acquisitions, so I don't need to use the computer so much.

 

I think your Wispa bars are suffering from shrinkflation, @Michael Hewett. I've noticed quite a few multi-packs of various items have fewer in them these days.

 

6 packs became 5, and are now 4.

 

I buy Yorkie bars (for my health). I used to get 3 for 99p, then £1. Then my local SM would only sell single bars for 80p each. Horrors!! I was told that it was a health issue, meant to stop people buying too much at one time. A bit like paracetamol.
So, I swapped SM, and now get 3 for £1.65.

 

I'm 100% with you there. And I'm not judging regarding selective empathy, I get upset when I see roadkill but theres some part of most of us I think that tends to "other" certain groups just so we don't get overwhelmed. We see that in the news all the time, with all the rush to (rightly) sympathise with Ukrainians but barely a mention of what is arguably a genocide happening in Ethiopia.

Regarding pheasants, its not the hunting them I have the problem with, they probably live a better life than most poultry do. But the misinformation, and the fact that many landowners can't see the connection between the sheer numbers of released gamebirds (dead and alive), and the scavengers/opportunists (crows, magpies, rats, gulls, foxes, badgers, kites, buzzards) that they claim are a "problem", but that are actually thriving on the easy food source in the form of excess carcasses that are being provided for them by the shooting industry.

 

But isn't that the case with pretty much any content uploaded anywhere? Not sure about here, but I've been a member of several forums where you give up ownership of posts, photos, etc, and have no say in how these may be used.
