The other side of the coin, as I mentioned yesterday- what's looking cr*p, due to the ludicrous slug population...

We have also been struggling with ridiculous numbers of slugs @fairygirl , they even ate most of my daffodil flowers this spring which was frustrating.

Yes - mine too @Sienna's Blossom . I had hardly any daffs. Some will have rotted, which is pretty normal here, but any that had buds were either eaten before they opened, or after they opened.
There's not been enough cold weather to keep slugs a bit more under control, and it's also meant that lots of plants came into growth sooner than normal, so it was a double whammy.
We always have a lot of them, but I've certainly never had the amount of devastation that I've had this year.

The top of my flowering cherry has been almost completely defoliated. :th scifD36: Never had trouble with it in 24 yrs. I suspect caterpillars but the branches are too high to inspect.

I had a bit of trouble with my post & reposting lost the text.

Nandina, either Gulf Stream or Obesessed. The later I think.
The 2nd picture is the view from the other side & has Lupins, Achilleas, Crocosmia, Salvia Numerosa Lyrical White, Euonymus White Spire &, beside the Nandina, Deutzia Codsall Pink, all waiting to spring into action.

What sort of soil and location is your Nandina in please @Panda2? I've got a N. Gulf Steam in a pot which looked fine over winter on a sunny patio but now looks a bit frazzled. I've recently moved it into a shady area to see if it improves. It was very nearly destined for recycling:)!

Hi Plantminded, when I looked up my post code my soil was classed as loamy & it isn’t acidic as far I know. It does seem to drain quite well. It is a south facing garden & it is on the west facing fence line so it gets plenty of sun. The bed was new at the end of last summer & the Nandina came out of a pot into the ground then. The bed had some topsoil added & I just mulched with normal MPC for the winter. It is the best it has ever looked to be honest so it must have enjoyed the rain lately.

I have come back to France after 2 weeks in the UK. It has poured with rain here, the grass is long and a lot of the plants look a bit battered. I've been tying up my foxgloves as a lot were lying on the lawn but they are looking OK. Most of them are self seeded from the foxgloves I bought around 3 years ago. The clematis just coming out is Kermesina.
