Dwarf French beans

I have two problems with my beans.
First one is foxes I woke up to one of my plants damaged. If I'll cut it where the red line is, would it recover?


Second issue is - brown spots! What are these? Nutrition? Sun? Disease? It's Delinel which supposed to be disease resistant. The colour of leaves is not looking great. I still know very little about gardening and panic a lot haha.

 

We grow many different dwarf french beans (don't like runners!). We have never had issues with them apart from slugs and snails. Are you sure a fox was the problem?
Brown spots? Sorry no idea but maybe others will know.

 

I would leave it uncut. The spots, not too sure, perhaps just rain, but they don't look too bad. Have you fed them?

 

Yes, I have problem with them for the last few weeks. They're digging my beds (cubs), so I already had a few other plants damaged too. I'm in the middle of testing different methods to stop them. Cats were never a problem in my area, not sure what else could do that. It was 100% fine yesterday. I had some French beans last year too and they were good!

But is it not going to die? The top part that I'm holding is just lying, the stem is half broken.
I didn't feed them, I'm not sure what to give them. I'm rubbish with fertilising to be honest. I have some manure pellets and seaweed fertiliser. Thank you!

 

I'd just remove the snapped off part, its a pity, but people often grow a few spares, just like the Royal Family, I dont think I would even have spotted the brown spots.
I think you might be over worrying to be honest.

 

It's hard to see, but in there may be a side shoot just at the node where the leaf is snapped.
If there is, then just remove the snapped bit and the remaining side-shoots will sprout.
I can't see anything wrong with the leaves either.

I sowed 15 a couple of weeks ago at the same time as 15 runners - none of the DFBs germinated, 14 of the runners did.
I'm trying some more,but suspect dodgy seed.

I usually sow about 6 DFBs every few weeks from early april until around mid-june.
Previously I've had such a huge amount of beans all at the same time, so now I sow successively.

 

We have had rabbit problems for years so the main veg areas are enclosed with chicken wire. We do have foxes in our orchard, at least 3 different ones, but thankfully they stay away from the main garden even though jumping over the wire would be no problem for them.

 

I wouldn't feed them till they've recovered from the damage, personally - slower harder growth will probably serve them better than fast sappy growth...

 

Those leave look a bit light and unhealthy to me, I would be using seaweed feed for young plants. Once, and look to see if they improve in the next 1-2 weeks, although the weather might be unhelpful. Like @Pete8 said it looks like there are side-shoots.

 

Agree - seaweed extract is for poorly plants what chicken broth is for poorly humans.
Both are rich in vital micronutrients to help recovery

It's the only feed I use on my houseplants for years and they seem very happy

 

I cut it off, fingers crossed it will still grow beautifully. Over worrying sounds like me!

I think this is my mistake, and I just planted some more today.

I love this comparison. I added some seaweed to it, we will see. I've got peas in the same bed and their leaves are looking a bit rubbish too, so that might be the thing that was missing.
