Had anyone been bitten yet?

I'm think I'm lucky, only get bites when its really hot and laying on top of the bed overnight.
I get ant bites but that's usually my own fault.

 

Not sure if the link is allowed... but I really swear by these. I have one with my car keys, house keys etc. Repeated clicking of the affected bite area does work - including those pesky horsefly bites, which swell so much.

Nothings biting here yet although there's plenty of mozzies around in the evenings. Horse flies come later and I've managed to avoid picking up ticks so far.

There's no need to pay out for bite remedies. With the exception of ticks that have to be handled differently I use my late mother's remedy. Run the hot tap and soak a cloth under it, as hot as you can stand it, then hold this on the bite for a couple of minutes. Repeat this a few times and it will draw out the sting/bite and itching. This remedy will last for hours and/or overnight.

 

This is very true, and a spoon dipped in boiling water, allowed to cool a little works very well. However, I think the saying is something like “the cure is worse than the disease” and care is needed. From what I’ve read this works by killing or numbing the nerves around the bite! Still we’ve used it many a time and I’ve very much welcomed the relief

 

I use the old fashioned remedies when I can DiggersJo. For bee and wasp stings I've used a bicarbonate of soda poultice in the past.

 

Bitten lots of times today when I disturbed an ants nest in the garden. I've never been bitten by ants before, despite disturbing nests many times. Maybe it's the time of year.

But I do itch a lot this evening.

Large group of mozzies (bigger than midges) got at me the other week while digging where I volunteer. My daughter suggested I allow one to bite and photo it. She wants to identify which it is, as her job involves looking at risk of mosquito carried disease in future in UK. Huh!
I used "skin so soft" which deters them, but I missed my elbow...ow.

 

I rarely get bitten, unlike OH.

 

Another matching pair of bites on my calf yesterday. Itch like billy-o. Looks like a snake/very short vampire bite but serves me right for gardening with bare lower limbs!

 

OH gets bitten to death by any flying insect that bites, and they pretty much ignore me. I must smell disgusting to English and Welsh bugs. I get the odd bite from midges in Scotland, but get bitten a lot in Ireland. Assuming this isn’t political, I wonder if midges are genetically different over there. Or maybe it was the Guinness.

My late mother was never bitten by insects and thought is was because she had Rhesus negative blood. My son-in-law is the same.

 

@Sheal hmm. I'm rhesus negative and they love me! Horseflies are the worst...

 

Darn!! Planted salvias, and got bitten by ants again.
Not happy!!
