    @Topbird
Hello !.. I'm assuming you want to grow it as a short climber, as I do? I would not recommend 'Polish Spirit' at all as it's far too vigorous and will swamp the rose. 'Niobe' is better but can still grow quite large if lightly pruned. I have found that 'BMS' will stop flowering if shaded out, it's a full sun/ full light rose..
I recommend choosing a companion Clematis in the 5-6 feet range.. I have 'Burma Star' with it, which never exceeds 5 feet for me, and doesn't interfere with the rose.. so I think something in that range. There are plenty to choose from these days.. I hope you see what I mean here, as I wouldn't want you to be disappointed with the rose's performance.

..lovely roses Mr Wiseowl - I have 'Iceberg'... and enjoying all the others above too !.

Thank you for that very helpful pointer @Mrs Hillard . You're right that Polish Spirit can be a bit vigorous.
I wasn't necessarily going to grow BMS as a short climber (it would mean 2 obelisks in close proximity) but more that the clematis would be close to the rose. However - Burma Star looks like an ideal choice to go on the big obelisk that's already there and, with BMS in the foreground I think it could look pretty good. Thanks again.
BTW - your roses and garden in general are looking as stunning as ever this year. Have always loved your perennial companion plantings every bit as much as your roses.

PS - Thank you to everyone who has posted pics and raves for DA Desdemona. I planted a bare root one about 6weeks ago and, ATM, it's a tiny little thing. I wasn't 100% sure it was the right rose for that spot - but I am now! Fingers crossed the muntjac don't get it!

Despite it being extremely windy yesterday and some plants taking a battering my roses are still hanging on and looking good in their first flush , Eustacia Vye with You’re Beautiful in the background.

Both Mary Delaney and The Pilgrim are growing in my front south facing garden against a wall which I’ve realised isn’t the best place for them. When it’s sunny and the temperatures rise they fry in the heat but as we haven’t much nice weather so far they’re doing ok and I’m enjoying them for the moment!

Having just spent an hour or so deadheading and tidying Kew Gardens & Blush Noisette, for those that have these or other similar cluster flowering roses, do you deadhead individual spent blooms or wait and remove the entire cluster when done?

@OwdPotter , I tend to deadhead individual blooms if I've got the time when I see them.

For 'Kew Gardens', I wait until the whole cluster needs removing, same for 'Blush Noisette' although I no longer have this rose.. For more traditional roses with large blooms, I do those individually if I have the time.

Your 'BN' has really grown in a short time @OwdPotter I remember you planting it up in that corner.

                  Lovely potted Eustacia above too.

I hope you don't mind me asking but does anyone grow 'Rachel'? mine has the most beautiful huge flowers on it but they are so heavy that it is as though the top part of the stem (approx 6cm) can not support the weight and she looks like she is bowing her head! Is this normal for this rose or is it lacking in something? It was planted 2-3 years ago. tia

                      Thank you @Mrs H,
                      I’m pleased with BN.
It’s only in it’s 2nd year and has filled out well.
It’s vigorous and I find needs reigning back to the trellis often as it keeps trying to escape its bounds.
I remember you telling me I’d planted it too close into the corner of the planter box..

You seem to be managing it perfectly fine @OwdPotter.. looking good !. do you find the scent wafts? I found it did, at least when the sun was out.

I was hopeful for that but haven’t found it to waft.
I find the scent to be quite light, but I think I don’t have a nose for rose fragrances generally, they have to be very strong for me to detect anything.

DA state strong old rose/musk/myrrh. I don’t know what that is supposed to be so I’d have to agree, but it’s medium to me.

DA state medium strong tea. It smells slightly medicinal to me, is that ‘Tea’ fragrance? I like it. A lot.

As this has been retired, I don’t know what DA thought. I get a medium/strong citrus fragrance
