So that's official, then, Strongy? Callistemon is now Melaleuca? I always wanted to grow (and failed dismally with) Melaleuca. But now I've got 4

 

Lovely, but why is it not weeping? It looks like rigidus.

 

@Victoria I don't know why it is named viminalis as it is clearly not but that is how it is labelled.
It. The leaves are more like citrinus.

 

I thought the one I have was C. rigidus, which is weeping.

@CarolineL I have two Indigoferas in different places and one is full of flowers, the other one doesn't even have any buds.
They are both in tubs.

From the latter ...
"The most widely cultivated member of this genus is C. citrinus, commonly known as Crimson or Lemon Bottlebrush [2]. C. viminalis is a small tree or shrub characterized by pendulous foliage and thus, was given the name Weeping Bottlebrush [2]. C. rigidus, commonly called Stiff or Erect Bottlebrush, is a stiff and upright shrub with red flower spikes [4]."

 

All I can say is if you google rigidus you get pictures of a weeping plant, I always thought the rigid part was the stiff leaves.

Looking for a definition for verminalis it suggests it just means used in basket weaving.

My plant not yet in flower and slightly overgrown but erect when young but as it gets taller it weeps.

 

The Botanical world is often a puzzlement to me but always fascinating.

I have only had two Callistemon, my current obviously viminalis and a stunning Callistemon 'Flaming Fiire' I had in 07/08 and lost. Sis had a C rigidus in Florida and it was the "sticky uppy" type, sharp to touch. I can run my hand down the flowers/brushes/leaves and it is soft to touch.

Love your colourful photos Mrs Hillard, could you tell me if your Berberis admiration grows in that shape or do you clip it. ?

Re the Berberis 'Admiration', no I don't do anything to it, it just grows into that rounded form. It's deciduous, turns a lighter colour in autumn. It's a good plant for edging a border and is trouble free really.
I also have 'Bagatelle', equally rounded and a darker colour, more plum purple.

Lots of unusual plants on view again.. wish I had room for one or two..

 

@CarolineL That came from a packet of mixed seed bought at Sydney Botanical Gardens 5 years ago along with Hakea, Kunzea, Calothamnus and another Melaleuca (which I have lost).
The Hakea here is the same height as (your seedling) Banksia.
