    Well I guess that's not too bad for a 5' tree/sapling.
I'm now quite curious as to how long it would take to get one of these seedlings to that height - can I out last it!

I get oak, ash, hawthorn and sundry other seedlings here but I take them all out. We have enough of them around our boundaries and I have planted other trees in our plot.

A couple of weeks ago I went to pick up and elm sapling form gardening friends in La Roche-s-Yon. Their garden is a forest of trees they tend to leave unfettered. Tried to persuade me I need an American oak. No thanks.

On the road leading to my physio's clinic there is a log row of fastigiate oaks on either side. They look magnificient in leaf but a trifle sad in winter and sinister when it's dark, cold and wet.

@RowlandsCastle, are you sure it is a peach tree, the leaves don’t look right?

I had an S.O.S. (save our supper) call yesterday from our neighbour. She'd forgotten to buy parsley for her fish pie, so I gave her a pot. Today, I've sown more pots of parsley, Basil (Mrs Burns lemon) and Coriander slowbolt.
I still haven't planted out all my annuals

Put some washing out first thing this morning. Picked some more elderflowers for the next batch of wine. Picked a bowl of red currants before the blackbirds got them all. Weeded the tomatoes plants.

Went sniffing with Elderly Dog, came home with a pot of baby agapanthus Silver Moon, a bag of cuttings of a red-flowered variegated pelargonium (might be Wilhelm Langguth), and some sad-looking nemesia which have been given a damn good drink and stuffed in a pot along with my short zinnias. Two choices.

        Hi @Punkdoc
I wasn't sure myself to begin with, but to find the root growing out of a peach (or nectarine) stone, I have to assume it is!!
Give me twenty years or so, and I'll try to remember to report back.
Is there any chance another kind of seed could be growing out from a split peach or nectarine stone? I'm assuming peach, because it's beneath a peach tree.

Now, that would be an interesting point. If so, then my wife will be pleased. She'll also take the mickey, having a laugh at my misidentification!! :rolleyespink:
Still, it'll be a few years before it produces fruit.

Still planting recent Plant Fair acquisitions. That's a first in June! With temps about 10°C lower than they'd usually be, and regular showers, I'm getting cocky  The downside is much more regular mowing and edging required. It's lovely to see the plants revelling in the decent growing conditions, though.

No need for fruit, a walnut will be easy to identify by its first true leaf!

Using the brush cutter to cut back the enormous grasses in the orchard. Some so tall you couldn't see the trees. No idea why they are so big when a neighbouring field waiting to be cut for hay is nowhere near as big. Have left areas where other wildflowers are in flower so some of the grasses will stay as they are also good for different wildlife.
Having said that not one butterfly seen all morning.

I lisfted the new pavers for a second time at my sunoven area and using my level, rearranged the soil underneath until I had it level across the entire area. It looks weird from a distance because the lawn leading down to it has a decided slope downhill but it does not bother me. Now my oven is level.

Made up some hanging baskets with Begonias. Re-arranged some pots and did some bramble/bindweed cull (escaping from next door).
