It's raining wrens, just walked into a cloud of fledging wrens and their frantic parents. They must have had a nest somewhere under our balconey decking.

Raining wrens - so much nicer than the more usual cats and dogs, and far more preferable @steephill :heehee:

The Hebe b. Margret/Margaret next to my bench has never flowered so abundantly as this year, and the noise, and activity, of the bees on it is wonderful to watch and listen to. There's easily a couple of dozen on it at one time

      This one's a whopper!

I love watching them, but they're hard to photgraph well. A video would be better but I'm not sure how to do it on here. Will have to investigate.
Meanwhile, and more sitting around than flying, Bob, [the new Dave] has decided he likes the restaurant facilities here

A pair of Jackdaws in the garden this morning. It's the first time I've seen them here.

All the wee blue tits have been flocking into the garden feeders in the last couple of days, and investigating teh various plants/trees. Lovely. I took a pic earlier, so I'll load it later on.
There was a young chaffinch in the garden when I came home yesterday. It was sitting on the obelisk for the s. peas, by the back steps, then it moved onto the step railings themselves. I wandered around for a few minutes so that I didn't frighten it by going in the back door. Daft mare!
It eventually flew across to the fence and the climbers etc in there.

The nuthatch was in today too, first time since late winter/early spring.

Didn't actually see the bird, but found a wing feather from a Tawny Owl on the path yesterday, so I know s/he's not far away.

The juvenile blackbirds were having a fine time this morning, sunbathing and scoffing my alpine strawberries. 2024-06-14_10-06-43_cropped.jpg 2024-06-14_08-10-25_cropped.jpg

I haven’t used pesticides, fungicides or herbicides for a quarter of a century at least.

I was very interested in the item on Springwatch regarding flea and tick control for dogs and cats. My cats are kept in the house except for short, supervised forays into the mainly paved garden, but I still use preventative drops for fleas on them as per the advice of the vet. I need to revisit this next time I take them.
