What are these insects in my lawn?

Hi, any idea what these insects are in my lawn. Have noticed loads of them over the last few weeks and seem to be more all the time especially when I came back from holidays and the grass got long while away.

Look like some sort of slug.

Any idea why they are quite prevalent in my garden? Is it good or bad to have them?

Lawn would be quite moist, mossy soil which I have tried to improve through aeration and applying some dressing with sand.

 

@NoviceGardener2023 The pictures are unfortunately not good enough to see the actual "subjects". Could you go close to one of them?

Just slugs. Pretty normal in damp conditions.

 

Not insects, but slugs.
At least their munching grass and not your veg or bedding plants.

 

Thanks. It is just that there is so many of them, nearly like an infestation. Never seen that many of them at once.
Trying to improve the moist garden soil as is but the current weather in Ireland is definitely not very Summer like.

Now you say that, it must be them who have decimated a plant in a small patch at the front of the house.

 

We always have loads in the grass if it's been wet - which is quite often here
Longer grass just makes it harder to see them though, so when the grass is shorter you see them all emerge when it rains, or in early morning/late evening.

 

June is now the time I leave the slugs doing what they want as most plants have developed. They save a lot of my time in Spring, when there is almost everything eaten by them.
