He's not evil, just another in a long line of idiot politicians. I expect the national service announcement was a headline grabber, it's had no serious thought put in to it and a royal commission would have to come up with the detail. Not an issue however as he's not staying in office.

Is there a word or phrase that means the opposite of virtue signalling? If there is, I would use it to describe the efforts of Farridge and some Tories to appeal to the lowest common denominator.
It appears that Farridge sees his support base as predominantly white male. It certainly looks like that to me.

Sorry, probably didn’t make it clear, it is Farage I think is evil.

Sunak really has confirmed my suspicions that he’s really not that bright. Talk about really not ‘getting it’.
And to paraphrase what someone else said yesterday … it's not just the Tory policies people are objecting to … it’s the Tory Party .., the people themselves. They’re revealing themselves to be the self serving villains some of us recognised them
as long ago. They’re nothing to do with the One Nation Conservative party my parents supported years ago. Normally by now the countryside would have Conservative posters on all the roadside farms … I’ve not seen one yet. Driving around the countryside the only poster I’ve seen is a pale blue one for James Bagge a former Tory who’s standing as an independent to try to unseat Truss!

and that also reveals exactly what he thinks of ‘the white male’. The man really is beyond despicable.

Where I used to live, it was unsafe to advertise your political leanings. If you put a poster in the window, you'd have a brick through it - or something nasty left in the front garden.

Where we are now, we've only had information through from one party - not the one I intend to vote for!!

We've had no leaflets at all. All so quiet. And neighbours say they are undecided.

              Farrage,
To follow the words of another politician, "I think he would make a great Prime Minister and I can say that because I know he won't win".

Saw one in a field here yesterday. :noidea:

                We've also only received one.

Not a moan, but yesterday driving back from visiting a local garden, I was pleased to see so many posters for the Labour party, some in areas I would not consider Labour areas.

There's a leaflet on the doormat along with the 'charity' bags. I haven't got around to picking it up yet.

We're lucky. We get postal votes for the GB election (mine's already completed and returned), but nobody knocks on the door or shoves a leaflet through the letterbox... every morning I catch up with the latest fiasco on the Beeb, and then spend a happy day in the garden thinking about something else. :spinning:

I think the crisis for the Tory party is even bigger than they currently imagine. The elderly cohort of their voter base won't be around for ever. If Labour manages two terms and stays in the centre left it currently occupies, that brings us to the mid 2030s. A lot of the Tory traditional support may no longer be on the electoral role.

If I were Labour, I'd be thinking quite hard about the merits of proportional representation whilst the Tories are at a very low ebb, thus unable to fight against it effectively, and there are a number of potential main opposition parties to divide the vote. First past the post works when there are two dominant parties. If the new reality is one dominant party and 3 or 4 roughly equal contenders for the opposition, it becomes in everyone's interests to have PR.

The only way to maintain sanity.

I am loving a summer election as it is the grass court tennis season, so I am fully occupied and don't see a single news bulletin for 5 straight weeks - Nottingham, Queen's, Eastbourne, and Wimbledon! :yahoo: I may even start a thread about it. After all, this is a gardening site and the absolute best use of grass is adorning a tennis court, IMV!
