What a horrendous post. You'd rather put in danger the rest of their family to prove to you that they're serious? Is it too much to think that maybe they are trying to get a better life and send money back to their family? After all the wages they'd get in the UK would hopefully have higher buying power in their home country (mins you the £ isn't exactly the hottest currency but still has higher value than many others). The lack of compassion and understanding in these conversations are such a horrible outcome of the xenophobic rhetoric of people like Farage...we need to do better than that.

'We' also need to accept that this is an internet forum and that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, tastes, way of gardening etc etc. Just because you don't agree with something that doesn't make it intrinsically wrong

Isn't this a good thing? They'd be getting slated for wasting resources and having forests chopped down unneccesarily, otherwise

But some things are undoubtedly ‘intrinsically wrong’ … and surely no one should hesitate to point that out. … without being rude or name-calling in return. Calling any human being ‘scum’ without knowing their back story is, in my opinion, one of those things.

The crucial words there are 'in my opinion', aren't they? :) Some posters manage to convey their beliefs or disagreement with others' points of view without implying that those beliefs are the only ones possible.

Far too much holier than thou rubbish being spouted. IMO

How you think is often influenced by where you live and your personal living standard's and what effects you.

I completely agree with @Jack McHammocklashing ...I noticed some of these young men who have crossed in the last few days were carrying small children...not a woman in sight..using them as a pawn ....there isn't a war in France so what are they fleeing from ?

As for leaflets through the door for the election...we've only had Labour ones which my dog has had great pleasure ripping up.

I got a conservative leaflet today from my mate Helen Whatley ;)
She seems quite friendly, for some reason and is going to sh** miracles, not sure why she hasn't done that in the past.
I got one leaflet from a fairly obscure bunch last week but forgotten who they were.
Just looked it up, it was the British Democrats.

IF Labour get in and perform all these miracles ...all these GP appointments they're going to pluck from the air...I'm sure they'll be pleased they're over worked already Oooh and the housing situation ..Hmmmm I wonder if Starmer will give up his Ten million pound plot in Surrey for the new builds ..I think not....

All we're going to hear is 'Because of 14 years of austerity from the Tories we're going to do burger all' except make matters worse...

Isn't that similar to what we heard from the Conservatives when they came into power in 2010, because some bright spark from Labour told them that there was no money!

Tories then proceeded to try and stop the money from draining away further, and got slated for trying to put the country on its feet.
                          Then pandemic.
                          Then Liz Truss.

So how are Labour going to prevent the country from going further into the red? Oh yes, they are going to increase government spending!!

                          What a delightful alternative!?

@lolimac, TBF, the Tories have spent 14 yrs blaming Labour for crashing the economy, so maybe what goes around, comes around! And Sunak hasn't given up any of his personal £700,000,000 fortune to help the country, AFAIA. ;)
