I have cut down more weeds and nettles around the compost heap, nearly got my ear pierced by an over affectionate briar rose.
Watered as required and potted up some seedlings.

Spent an hour or so checking for bare root plants I'd planted . The one I'd being undecided about and then given in to treating myself had rotted away!:gaah:
it looked healthy when it was planted .

But then again it was only from home bargains.:frown:
Checked some root ginger I'd left in the brown paper bag and in a dark place.two lovely whit bulbs forming on it, so this was planted up.
The root ginger was from tesco I've now got four plants from a £1-60 piece.
Next replanted more plants in border I'd moved from overcrowding in another border. And now I'm jiggerd

I added some new Heucheras to a shady border that needed some extra colour. Now there are shades of yellow, purple, bronze and tangerine to liven it up a bit. I’d let some Euphorbia take over as ground cover and they were getting untidy so they were removed and consigned to the bin. Some of my Hostas in pots were getting eaten so I’ve raised them up on a bench where I will leave them now to flower. I moved some more pots around and tied up some Fennel before it starts to splay out. I then moved a Nepeta to the front garden and watered all the new plants.

Do you grow it as an ornamental ... or for a supply of ginger? If the former, what does it look like as a plant? Just curious. :)

Just gave the newly planted Gaura a protection from the little fox that is in love with my garden for some days. Watered the newly purchased plants and tomatoes/Beans beds as well as vegytroc.
My little hedgehog is looking for food near the plants roots hoping there are rain worms :-(.

Today we need to make drainage holes in two small dustbins which are going to house a couple of plants that need more rootspace. Will take some muscle power to do that and then add the compost etc so having a little rest first:roflol:

Pricked out some white foxgloves and a few small thalictrum rochebrunianum, did some deadheading in the back garden, inspected the front borders.....some deadheading needed later. Watered the small pots of perennials growing on, will water and feed all the pots tonight.

We bought a Magnolia "Lois" 3 years ago. It produced some very faint yellow flowers the following year. This year it had buds which all aborted. Then we found that there were suckers coming from the root stock. Decided (wrong time of course) to dig it up and transplant it elsewhere and remove the suckers. Fingers crossed it will come back but we don't think so.

I spent the afternoon on a tidy up project inspired by another thread. The bank above the steps to my lower garden has been needing some attention for a while. It’s been taken over by Euphorbia and suckers from a Lilac nearby which were growing in the rough sandstone wall, constructed by the original owner of the house over 50 years ago. The wall is unstable and the bank’s a fall hazard at the best of times! I dismantled part of the wall to remove the plants and roots and rebuilt it in a similarly rough style to blend in with the rest of it! I then replaced an unruly fern with a tidier one, trimmed a honeysuckle, added two bags of farmyard manure to the border and topped it with some bark. The steps were in a mess by this time so I swept them, gave them a jet wash and jet washed the rest of the paving in my lower garden. Here’s the result.:phew:
