Yawn Yawn Wakey Wakey 2024

Morning all.

We leave the Lake District today to stay with friends near Penistone for 2 nights. We have been so lucky with the weather, which will be much colder today with rain this afternoon. It has been warm and sunny for our stay.

 

Cool and very breezy today. I managed to plant out the runner beans around a Fort Knox wigwam yesterday. Now I have to put a windbreak around that to protect the plants from the forecast strong winds coming in.
The next task is planting out some kale, after I have put the broom around the house in readiness for visitors on Sat. It is lovely to see family but I am finding the housework prep. very boring! They have offered to take me out for lunch in Mevagissey on Sat. so I am going to offer a Cornish Cream Tea before they leave in the afternoon.

 

Morning everyone, last night started very hot and sticky again but thankfully it's much cooler and a bit overcast this morning.
Two things I have meant to say for some time. @Dovefromabove , we are still catching mice in the snap trap by the greenhouse. It's odd that it's always the same trap that gets them, nothing in the other two. I have lost count of the total but we must be in double figures by now. I'm not even using bait, just reset the trap.
On a brighter note we've had babies! I thought the blue tit activity was a late nest build as they seemed to be taking nesting materials in, but less than weeks later I was going to the side gate to be confronted by a very nervous fledgling on the ground, so of course I backed away, but kept an eye on it. Later in the day I'm sure it had made it up into the viburnum, and over the next days we saw more.

 

We caught a greenhouse mouse the other day @Allotment Boy , but none in the house of late …
OH feels ok except for the throatiness, but is checking with colleague before going to work just in case she objects … however he thinks he caught it from her.
I feel as if I’m hatching something … so instead of taking son’s washing back to him tomorrow as arranged I’ll take it today (apparently he’s out of undies … WW has a load of his laundry too). He was going to come here to pick it up but of course Glasto means he’s really really busy. He’s currently on his way to Epping and after that is meeting a client back at the office (near Ipswich) at 12:30!
If I do the laundry journey today it means I can have a quiet day tomorrow before the concert on Saturday.

I have another request. Another plant that neither myself or wife are able to identify. Not even my App!! It just tells me its from the family of Dicots - which is no help at all.


Is it another Jasmine?

I am photographing our plants and keeping a note of where things are - for next year.
If we don't kill them, we may get them back again.

 

Seeing the leaves would be helpful.
The flowers look like Sisyrinchium.

 

I agree with @Punkdoc … the flowers look a lot like sisyrinchium … the leaves of which look a bit like gladioli but are prone to turning brown/black.

Your new garden looks well stocked @RowlandsCastle , what fun to keep finding new treasures popping up. I agree with you that the conifer by the arch probably needs to come out.

Glad you had good weather in the Lake District @Busy-Lizzie, doesn't always happen. Have a good journey home.

We've not got anything planned today, I've just washed a big furry throw so hoping to get that dry in the sunshine and I'm still trying to locate the receipt for the bed/mattress. Another big file to look through so that will keep me busy.

I agree with Loofah, Megavissey is lovely, enjoy your cream tea @Goldenlily26 , wish you hadn't mentioned food though, I feel peckish already and it's a no lunch day again!

Yes, sisyrinchium @RowlandsCastle.. I bought one after seeing it in flower at Plas Cadnant a few weeks ago. It's quite striking.

 

@lizzie27 , the garden certainly is well stocked - the previous owner was hugely keen on making the garden HER oasis.
We are reaping the benefits.

Morning all. Thursday. already 77 degrees here. Almost 10Am

Dragged the hose around to the front of the house yesterday to give all the front plants a good drink. We need a good rain. Did rain slightly last night. My hydrangeas are exploding. Annabells full of big white flowers, more than 2 hands wide. My blues are beautiful, the Oak leaves are full. My purples are pretty, and then lets not forget the pinks and some white lace caps I have. Then there are all the day lilies in the valley garden that are blooming, many different varieties and colors. And my hostas are nuts. So are the hardy geraniums. I can go on, lots of dense beds, hard to walk about with in to find any stray weed.

Wish there was a way to post pics here from my cell phone, make life easier . Oh, well. And half the time I get the notification that its the wrong size, so that stifles me.

@RowlandsCastle I totally agree with @Ergates. The garden is looking fabulous - I remember the pictures you posted of it just after you moved in and now all these lovely treasures are popping up for you. Don't overdo things if you are still feeling shaky.
@redstar, your garden sounds super. I love hydrangeas. I hope you take pictures and then post them here when you return.
