I had the evidently stupid idea that 'Tracked 48' would mean delivery within 48 hours. When the item still hadn't arrived by the 3rd day I finally received an e-mail from Royal Mail with a delivery date 5 days after the vendor despatched it. The e-mail actually says they 'endeavour to deliver within 2 - 3 working days'! No Guarantee, although I had to pay extra for fast delivery.

It is annoying. I had a plant sent 24 hr tracked first thing on a Monday morning. It arrived at 4.30 pm on the Friday. :th scifD36:

Since posting my original moan I've had an email saying delivery today. That means 48 Hour Tracked can actually mean 96 Hour Tracked. Surely they should be picked up on false advertising when the reality is only found in the small print of the RM site and not on the site of the vendor.

They are crap. I gave the sender my What3Words address and they included it in their parcel label. RM still said that they couldn’t find me. They tried three times, three days in a row, and each time had an excuse like “Nobody at home”, when we were at home. In the end, they dumped it at the nearest post office where I picked it up, broken and bashed, on the fourth day.

Our RM delivery only have 3 words "huh, huh, HUH..."! Have to add mind you they are nearly always on time.

Parcelfarce in particular are the pits. Indeed, there are few that are any good, with DPD being the most reliable for me.

I get my prescriptions delivered and about a year ago I had an email saying that RM will deliver my package 'today between 07:45 and 10:30' - as they usually do.
At about 10.30 I had another email from RM saying my package (medications) had been delivered - it hadn't.
So I panicked and tried calling RM to ask where my meds had been delivered - wow what a waste of time. It's not possible to speak to anyone after 45mins I gave up.
I called Lloyds Direct (who provide my meds) and asked if they could help, but they couldn't.

Next day, postie arrived with my box of meds!
I asked him why I got a message yesterday saying they'd already been delivered.
Quite off-hand he explained that usually they scan parcels as having been delivered as they load them into the van for delivery, but if they run out of time they don't deliver until the next day!!!

I did fill in a form on the RM site saying how ridiculous this is especially when medications are involved.
              I never got a reply.

The 48 refers to days not hours.
It gives them a bit of leeway should there be problem:biggrin:

Never heard of Tracked 48, but I went to the post office at 3 in the afternoon on Thursday, paid £7.95 for a A4 envelope to London, and it arrived at 1 PM the next day (Yesterday).
Maybe Tracked 48 means rather than next day, they can deliver it 48 working hours later?

Info on Tracked 24 and Tracked 48.

It was supposed to be piloted from April but didn't quite make it. It has been piloted now but almost all post offices aren't set up properly for it. You can book it on line and pay for it now and print your own labels (some post offices will print them for you) and then drop the package into a post office.

They now hope to have it set up properly across the country by 11th July.

An extracted quote from mid March:-

                  "The Tracked24 service provides

                  • Tracking to delivery point
                  • Photo on delivery
                  • SMS or email notifications to recipients
                  • Next working day delivery aim
                  • Compensation cover up to £150
                  • Change your delivery options before delivery is attempted

Tracked48 aims to deliver in 2-3 working days, but otherwise the same services.

This is the service which will now be available at Post Offices on demand. At this stage branches don't know much about it but it seems that whilst normally Horizon labels will be used (and a new code, perhaps?), it will also be possible to prepay in stamps before you leave home!"

We have an Amazon bookshop (been selling off quite a few of our books for a few years) and Amazon later started insisting on them being 'Tracked' which was a real PITA.

As Royal Mail charged extra for tracking and EVRI (was HERMES) provided the service free of charge we have used EVRI since - with no trouble although others have had problems with them. Unfortunately EVRI don't deliver to the IOM so we used the tracked 48 service. Seems OK.

Just thinking but I have my medicines delivered by tracked 24.
I usually get a message from royal mail late afternoon saying they have my package but the delivery date is usually the day after next.
Which is 36hrs I guess

The RM online service is superb! You can do parcels or letters, re-send to same previous addresses and they will currently print you label , postie bring it to the house and take your item - collection free... was 50p. I've posted many an item , especially abroad, booking late afternoon and had it picked up next morning by the postie.

Yes, it's a good service - but not for everyone. I have some friends who live in very rural areas that have very little post delivery service at all. They're lucky if the postman comes past twice a week. The joys of living in the country. :)

Gone are the days when we used to have the Post Bus. That was a very mini bus that the postie used for delivering the post but also took people to the village or town that is on his route - free of charge.

We're a mile from our village and we used to have two buses a week.

We live about 2 miles from our local sorting/delivery office so aren't rural or anything like it. Our postal service is unreliable at best.
