Garden waste wheelie bin woes

There's nothing banned in there, I never cram it down, I cut branches down, there's no big branches or anything like that.

I was cross last week as I just missed them doing it, because I wanted to see how much shaking they gave it. I wanted to determine that before raising it with the council.

I've got someone hopefully who might be able to empty it for me (they're a tree surgeon). I can't tip it over unfortunately.

Also, I'm trying to move to their new fortnightly service - at the moment it's only monthly or so, and I'm sure this doesn't help.

 

Is it kind of a lot of wet stodgy stuff at the bottom and its making the bin heavy.

 

I'm glad this subject came up as it just reminded me my subscription expires next week.

 

I see the bins being emptied often.
The thingy on the cart swings the bin up and over into the back of the cart and gives it 3 thuds.
Now and then I see they check if it's been emptied before removing it from the back of the cart and if not they press a button that repeats the process.

When I used mine, I'd ram as much as I can in into it and I'd be quite confident that none would fall out if the bin was inverted over my head.
But I never put grass clippings in - they're much too valuable.

I must admit that before we moved house, I had many sacks of sand, left over from rebuilding a wall. My removal company wouldn't take them, our buyers didn't want them left, and despite mixing a couple of sacks with compost, there was quite a weight left.
Over the weeks, I mixed the sand in with my garden waste, and all was disposed of.
No-one said anything.
But some garden waste collection crews do a terrific job, and provided it's not plastic, etc, they took it. However, at our new home, it's a fortnightly collection, and the council are very picky on what goes in.
Certainly, if your bin isn't being emptied - tell your council. Don't come across as whiny, or a complainer, to begin with. Just inform them, and politely ask that the crew ensure it's emptied. After all, it's a service you are paying for.
But do keep a note of when you speak to them, and who you spoke to. Become firmer if it continues, and back up your comments with an email, or letter.
If the crew doesn't do the job with your bin, it's quite likely it is being repeated across the area.

 

For those interested, a 15kg Butane bottle is the perfect size to ensure there are no wasteful voids in a wheelybin !
But you must remove it before collection.

 

It's heavy, but I made really sure to put a base layer that was dry twiggy stuff and not compressed down or anything.

So does it not fall out the bin when turned upside down?

 

Ours only got stuck once when it had frozen solid. Even I couldn't shift it until it thawed out.

Our Council charges £60 for 20 collections each year. As we had extra waste we have just paid £45 for an extra 20 bags to be taken.

It is very expensive (Labour Council!!).

 

£40 here but no guarantee on how many collections you will get.
