Separate Moan Thread About The Election

We've finally received leaflets from Labour, LibDem, Green and ReformUK. We had to ask for the Conservative leaflet, just to compare.

 

I've only had leaflets from Cons and Lab here.

 

I just picked up Reform, Conservative, Labour and Greens, they were delivered with the post.
Nothing worth reading on any of them TBH, they are all in the bin now.

 

What can we promise?
All we have to add is its fully funded and the plebs will believe us.

 

I've had a doorstep visit from a Labour Candidate and a personally addressed leaflet from a Tory MP. No signs of any other party representatives.
I'm wondering when ( or if ) people vote , whether it will be mainly local or national issues which determine their choice ?

 

Being its a general election I assume it will be National issues.

 

Well, not necessarily ...........I didn't put it very well - sorry - but if your chosen MP candidate is also active in your area, you could perhaps judge him/her/it on how they have dealt with issues locally and whether or not they are likely to continue in the same vein if voted into government ? Whilst it may not actually be "local" that matters, the attitude does.
Not quite that simple I know .... some MP's remain true to their ideals whilst others get a bit "infected" to put it politely.
Just a thought - not looking for an argument - I imagine most voters will have made their choice by now anyway however they arrived at it

 

My local MP is "unsuitable" (better not elaborate in print ) IMV, but the seat is very, very safe. There is, however, the slither of a chance that the extremely strong Lib Dem candidate could get in, especially if the Reform candidate slices off some of the 21,000 majority. So ... I'm not looking at policies, and in any case none of the manifestoes show any sign of understanding that what is needed is not growth per se but better wealth/resource distribution, so I am voting local.

 

For me it will definitely be national issues @Philippa, the country as a whole is in too much of a bad state.

 

I've tried unsuccessfully to find the "fact check" I read recently, about perceptions of bias on the BEEB. It came to the same conclusions as this one from last June:

Leaflets - now had 2 Tory (both personally addressed) 2 Labour, LibDem, Reform but no Greens. But we had one from that chap - forget his name - you know " Good pussy".

 

My MP is absent until elections come around far too busy in Westminster to bother with the constituency which is pretty large and spread out.
I dont even know where she lives when not in London, TBH I dont really care.
A safe seat I would think, so no need to get involved with the little people.

 

I think the BBC are possibly trying to appear impartial, but I think most of the staff are loose cannons, The news reader that had to make an apology for stupid remarks about Farage a while Back comes to mind, and the Presenter on the breakfast show was reigned in a while ago, Munchy crunchy, seems to have chilled a bit now.
all the time they keep employing people with their own agenda they will have problems being impartial.

 

That entire article is engaging in the Argumentum ad populum fallacy and I don't think it gets us any further in answering the question. But it's certainly interesting to know the views of people in the polls!

I am always suspicious of sources claiming to give me "the facts". If they simply presented me with sufficient evidence to convince me of something, then they wouldn't need to declare it as "the facts", they typically just state it that way because of the insufficiency of their evidence.

It's peculiar that they presented polls as more compelling evidence than the studies, surely it should be the other way around! They also only referenced one polling company, YouGov.

Finally, the article writers are the authors of a book which is essentially pro-BBC propaganda. Hardly the most impartial observers of the situation, are they?
