No, however if he said something online that was likely to bring the company into disrepute, he'd be terminated immediately - indeed, if I said something online in that manner, even from my own personal account, I would be sacked.

It’s not like that any more.
Long gone are the days when Percy Thrower was sacked by the BBC for advertising garden equipment … Rylan pops up in the commercial channels advertising Cinch despite spending the rest of his time on various BBC sofas.

I think that you will find theBBC have often criticised comments made by journalists who appear on their programmes, and have in some cases stopped using them.
I maybe wrong, but this comment was not made on BBC, and it was not an incitement to actually commit the act mentioned.
I really don’t understand why the BBC comes in for so much criticism, particularly from those on the political right, but that is another matter.

Maybe that is where it has gone wrong? Standards allowed to slip - very similarly to a lot of the institutions that we all loved and trusted.

But DA was being ironic wasn’t he … surely it was a reference to the assassination of JFK when he was believed by whoever to be a threat to national security.

Was he? I suppose it is a possibility. However, flip that very same tweet around but have it posted by Nigel Farage and being said about Biden.... do you honestly believe that deleting it and saying it was irony would be sufficient?

… and they don’t play the National Anthem at closedown either :roflol:

Hang on a moment … they don’t close down … not even for an hour after Children’s Hour so that the little ones can be put to bed and have their bedtime story before the grownups settle down for the evening. :gaah:

Bring back the test card, the potters wheel and the kittens in a basket of knitting… and then we can have those loveable mop tops from Liverpool with their smart suits and funny accents ..,

I am sure you are right @Dovefromabove, but irony is elitist and therefore very bad.
For those not aware of DAs own politics, he was a former supporter of the Labour Party, who moved to the right, so doesn’t really fit the mythology of the typical BBC person.
I suppose at this point I should declare a conflict of interest in that I know DA fairly well and apart from his now right of centre views, like him very much.

He has posted since and claimed it was satire. I think it's to cover himself but only he knows the truth. Whether satirical or not, I think it's highly inappropriate considering the current political climate and the recent disturbing cultural shift towards the normalization of political violence.

He knows damn well what happened to Jo Cox and Sir David Amess.

No conflict of interest here, however I would suggest if he is a friend that you may wish to be having a word or four in his shell-like ;)

I find him a very interesting writer @Punkdoc although on occasion I’ve found myself quite exasperated … I’ve a feeling he could be fine company, but doesn’t suffer fools …

I don't have a problem with David Aaronvitch, I rather enjoy the Briefing Room. When he works for the BBC he follows their rules and when he works for the Times he follow their rules, when he is himself it not down to them.
As far as his post above goes, I've certainly thought along similar lines, mind you I'd appreciate it if you shot Biden as well.
In this case it's better described as assassination rather than murder, it has a long and ignoble history and could usefully be used to solve a number of other problems not just which senile old fool gets to fly around in Airforce One.
