Plumeria

The vertical shoot has flower buds

 

The plan is to plant on an angle, thereby bringing the stems into an upright position, when I next repot, probably be next year now as I dont intend potting on again this year now.
So I'm positioning them to try to bring the growth into the other direction to the lean.

 

Did you grow that from seed?
The cuttings I bought last year on E bay turned out to be from plants that hadn't yet flowered, but they didn't really want to tell me that..
Getting hold of known flowering cuttings over here appears to be gold dust.

They're the two cuttings from the Twig that I kept. Gave away four.... I'm dithering about whether to chop the other tall trunk in October so I can get it under the roof. My burning ambition to have a frangipani tree was all very well, but no chance of sniffing the flowers

The two I did from seed last year, I decided to Bonsai for fun in three inch pots (I don't have room for any more large pots) ..

 

Anyone come across Plumeria pudica?
Seems to have interesting leaf shapes.

 

It's....different Hardy to -4C according to Wiki, but the flowers aren't very scented.

 

A year on, it is time for an update.

I note the leaves are completely different.

@pete and @noisette47 How are yours doing?

 

Mine are doing not much, its been too cold, I had some outside this time last year, but I dont think they would like it this year.
If they dont pick up soon it will be a lost year.

My biggest and smallest, the big one was a cutting I rooted late summer 2022 I think, the smaller was seed grown and dried off over the winter.
Others are somewhere between sizes.

 

How did you get leaves all the way down? Mine live outdoors all year long. I guess my Bonsai would be as big as your little one if I put them in bigger pots. I have actually been thinking of doing that.

 

The lower leaves are dropping off occasionally.

Did yours defoliate through the winter?

 

I do feed them and the big one has been put into a slightly bigger pot, I dont want to go too big , with the pot, as I'm hoping to starve it into flowering.

 

Like @pete, they didn't like the cold, wet spring here at all. The Twig still hasn't got leaves although the roots feel solid. The cuttings I did when I chopped him are doing better but it will have to be a very long, warm autumn to get flowers.
As an aside, the 'climbing frangipani', Chonemorpha fragrans, is flowering, but if ever a plant was mis-nicknamed, that is. It belongs to the Apocynaceae and much more closely resembles Mandevilla suaveolens than Plumeria! It's got a nice but not overwhelming fragrance.

The insurance cuttings I did are all available for anyone that wants to try it...

 

Talking of Mandevilla, the red flowered sundaville that I bought last summer appeared to have come through the winter and started flowing again.
In the last few days it appears to be dying.
