I think they come from the politicians,
Amazon and the PO have never sent me anything about why I should vote for a particular party.

Agreed. I would be inclined to suggest a lower overall rate, say 25%. Giving a quarter of your wealth to the gov seems reasonable. Giving nearly half seems a bit steep. Re property, maybe provided at your time of death you own only one home which you lived in full time (until nursing or hospital care) and it is an average size (3-4 bedrooms, not a mansion with acres of land, pool house and stables), this could be exempt.

That sounds quite reasonable. :blue thumb:

It would require considerable thought as to values, rates of tax and how much of your savings should be exempt.

I had customers who had moved their savings offshore simply because of the high rate of taxes - not just inheritance - who said they would have kept them in this country, and invested here, if rates were lower. Their money, if kept in this country, would have provided some tax income for the UK and also investment to provide jobs.

Exactly. Lowering tax can raise more and reduce avoidance.

Me.... I had the hump about the Tories in particular (not unusual) so fed them my thoughts in words of one syllable.

Only another day or two of all the bickering :fingers crossed: and I promise not to give my ideas on how the country should be run once the election is over. :roflol:

I shall still continue to govern Shineyland with a benevolent but firm hand whilst my main advisor, Mrs S, will supervise as usual. We shall continue to be ruled by the big boss, Oscar The Cat, who is always watching from above. We continue to follow his rule on love everyone (very difficult to follow) and be kind to all creatures.

I have a feeling that in reality, it may be Mrs S that is Prime Minister of Shineyland, with you as Chancellor... ;)

The Tories appear to have conceded defeat ... and the polling stations aren't even open yet. Apparently it is part of a dastardly plan to persuade voters not to bother to turn out as it is all decided.

Read a very worrying article published by the Guardian yesterday. They are normally wholly pro Labour, but the gist was to fund public services, Labour is intending to join forces with asset management companies like BlackRock, who, of course, require profits in perpetuity. That is a perfect recipe for enriching the already rich and squeezing ordinary people out of owning assets.

                      We will see. :)

If it walks like a duck and barks like a duck, it's likely to be AI generated disinformation.

Agreed - however, the more worrying thing is that our previously trusted outlets (BBC etc) also seem to have become pretty good at disinformation, even it that is by omission.

I don't know whether the 10 Downing Street cat is still in residence but if not, a Barking ( mad ?) Duck would make an excellent replacement I think. It would fit in remarkably well and the Media in general would be falling over themselves to have it in shot when interviewing politicians / attending press conferences.
You never know.........we may even decide to vote for it next time around
