It definitely has the same aroma! IMV, essential public services should be run on a not-for-profit basis. Anything else is just giving tax-payers' money away in return for poorer, corners-cutting provision.

Just as a note of interest, the country that experienced the most rigging of any election was Liberia. The winner, Charles King, got about 230,000 votes with only 10,000 people registered to vote :yikes:. It wasn't until three years later that he resigned due to corruption and slave trading.

One country in Africa, and I forget which, accidentally announced the final result on the day before polling. :nonofinger:

Shouldn't have pulled the starting trigger then. ;)

I never understand this swing thing that they go on about on the TV, they said earlier that Labour needs a 12% swing.
I cant work out what its based on, number of votes?, number of seats?, its like nobody else matters and I suppose in the scheme of things they dont.

This is not new but is quite a good explanation (a darn sight clearer than others I found ):
This is what it means when pollsters talk about a swing - and why it matters

I'm letting myself get a bit excited for tomorrow now. There's been all sorts of family issues going on that have taken priority, but all sorted now. Daughter's proxy vote all set up (she hadn't received confirmation until today), friends due round before the exit polls start, just got to go and exercise my civic duty in the morning and I'm all set :). Still a bit nervous...

I am more looking forward to Friday morning as the results are properly coming in and then the next day I am looking forward to is the day the removals van appears in Downing Street to shift Rishi out.

I'm opening up the polling station at 6.15 and then bugging off before the punters arrive and forgetting about the whole thing.

Shopping in the morning, out to a nice pub for lunch, gardening in the afternoon and friends round in the evening.

I'll ignore all the polling circus on TV and just hope the local person I voted for gets in - the only one to actually mention they wanted to sort out things locally.

I was actually thinking of going away for a couple of weeks :heehee:

I'm really looking forward to the honeymoon period, however short it may be. I remember the last Labour one and Mrs Blair getting the milk off the step.
Maggie in St Francis of Assisi mode not so much. Maybe St Francis is turning the spit.

No! But if they weren't ready on the start line, shouting "Go!" seems a tad unwise. ;)

I am looking forward to seeing how things are come Friday morning too. My guess is the removal vans have already been, @Fat Controller, and the US flights are booked.
