Here is a document which a Tory MP sent to me once, many years ago, when I expressed my views on a certain topic in a letter which I sent to his constituency office. He replied to the effect that he voted as he saw fit, with no attention paid to the conflicting views of his constituents. He included this document in his letter to me to show that he was right to do so.

@Tidemark That doesn't surprise me in the least, it's precisely the sort of supercilious attitude I've come to expect from the Tories! :dunno:

Well, it will soon be over and we can get back to talking about gardening. :phew: :heehee:

This thread has only gone to prove that even gardeners can't avoid talking politics.

It really doesn't matter which party wins the election today - people will remain divided. Will it really make any difference whether Conservatives remain in control, or Labour win? Either way, people will be happy to complain, and be at one another's throats.

Tory voters will moan, Labour voters will moan (but remember why the Tories were voted in, back in 2010), and SNP will still push for Scottish independence. The Greens will still hold one seat, LibDems will still bungy jump, and Nigel Farage will become US president.

Okay, maybe not the last one, but I wanted to see if you were awake!! :rolleyespink:

I think this thread goes to show it is perfectly possible for a group of people with diverse views to chat about politics without hysteria breaking out. :) I've enjoyed this discussion.

I was awake earlier when I opened the Polling Station but have left them to it and we are having a no election day here in Shineyland. Gardening, friends, a good meal at a lovely pub even further out than we are and no radio or TV.

They can't call me if they are having problems at the polling station as I don't have a mobile :heehee:. I can't think of any reason they could want me as they can still function if there is a power cut :blue thumb: - but they won't be able to use the kettle

Things can get quite exciting out here in the sticks. :roflol:

I think we all know the two outcomes today - Labour will win with a hefty majority and mostly because of the second outcome... the Tories getting handed their backsides by the majority of the country.

Whilst I am not wild about what will essentially be a continuation of the same nonsense with a different figurehead and under a different banner, for yet another five years... I am not wild about any of them or indeed anything in the current system. I genuinely wish we could set a date to end the current system and build something much improved, with higher engagement from the public (even if that required frequent referenda via the internet, for example), but also where we spend more on the things we need (housing, nurses etc) and less on the things we don't (HS2 etc) and get this country back on it's feet.

Whoever wins, good luck to them - they are going to need it.

I just hope that Starmer quickly learns to make decisions based on genuine need and not who shouts loudest or has a fancy social media campaign
