You do not need to be antediluvian to be grumpy, everybody has the right to be grumpy. It should not be seen as a privilege of the antiquated.

 

Self service checkouts that start by asking you if you are using your own bag and then at the end when you try and pay ask how many bags you have used 0, 1, 2, 3 etc. Well I've used 1 bag,but if I enter 1 it then charges me for my own bag. If I enter 0 how do I carry my items to the car.
Could they not change the system to ask how many new bags have you used; or offer your own, 1, 2, 3 etc.

 

I don't understand @NigelJ. You just enter zero, and then put the bags back on the trolley if you've used one, or carry it/them if you only have one or two. That's how the ones here all operate.
If you enter a number above zero, it automatically assumes those are new bags and you'll be charged for them

 

I think Nigel's point is he has used bags, just not ones owned by the supermarket, so to say he has used zero bags is technically inaccurate.

 

I usually just put zero on both counts, I assume they are trying to catch you out by asking again.
The problem I find is if you put zero at the beginning you can't put your bag on the take off area as it keeps saying unexpected item in the bagging area.

I've had problems with this in the past.

 

I have a huge amount of wispy flotsam and little black floaters across my vision. Last night when I was dreaming, I noticed they were there and I was looking out through them as I do all day. Isn't that odd? When you are dreaming, your actual eyes aren't seeing anything surely? Your brain is making stuff up. No light is hitting your retinas. Anyway, I was peeved not to be able to get away from them even when asleep.

 

I can't cope with the paradox.

 

I believe that is the case, but pictures generated within the brain are generated using the information obtained via the eyes so the flotsam and jetsam floating round is considered to be present in the real world and so appears in your dreams.
I don't really dream, I have to imagine what a dream would be like.

 

If you only have one or two floaters it's considered normal, but if you have a lot in one eye it might be worth getting it checked out.

 

I'm checked out annually, @pete. They appeared after cataract surgery. Apparently you can get them hoovered out if you go privately, but there are risks, and in my first cataract op, the lens was incorrectly placed, so I'm wary of making things worse.

You might dream, @NigelJ, but just be unable to recall that you have.

 

@ViewAhead I appear to have more floaters since cataract surgery last winter, however as the new lenses significantly improved my myopia, it could just be they are more in focus and so more obvious.
