More hoverflies recently here, but the bees are also quite plentiful. Those ones nesting under my shed are certainly very busy...and very fed up with me....
We don't get hornets here @On the Levels , so can't help you with that. Do you get them regularly? Maybe he fancied what was on the telly...
I had to laugh at these two yesterday I swear that one on the right was saying " Kevin, when is she bringing out our lunch - I'm Hank Marvin?"
Their backs to me as well - just to rub it in :heehee:

Couple of bullfinches appeared yesterday. The female went in the cage for some food, but the make fancied the [very early] maturing berries on the Amelanchier. Pix aren't great as they were through the window, and he was either hidden by the foliage/branches, or had his back to me. He's been watching those woodies...;)

I heard him later on too, but he didn't stay long enough for a pic. There's always plenty of them around, especially in the hawthorns, but they don't often come into the garden. Lots of available food and habitat for them nearby.
Hopefully, they'll visit again and I might get a better pic - it wouldn't be hard!

I had a visit from an enormous brown dragonfly a few days ago, it came into the garden two days running, haven't seen it again. I could hear the hum of its wings.
Not many zzzz's around, there were two bees on the lavender yesterday, usually I can hear the buzz but not this year. Loads of enormous ant's nests in pots and stone walls.

We never have ants' nests here @Goldenlily26 . I've never had one in any garden, and I have a lot of pots. We do have ants, but never to any great extent. They certainly aren't problematic in any way.

We have plenty of owls around @Jiffy , but I'm usually fast asleep when they're out and about!
I woke up from a little nap [several hours ] on the settee a while back. It was about 2am, and I hadn't locked the back door or shut the gr'house. I heard one nearby while I was doing that. Lots of good habitat and food here for them.

I have loads of bees @Jiffy , but butterflies have struggled. It can be hit and miss here any year with weather in summer, but we had the best weather for them in May, so it might have been a bit early for them to be out and about much.
Once the buddleia's flowering, it'll be interesting to see if they're more abundant. The Red Admirals are always later anyway - August mainly, but the torties are usually plentiful through June and July, and I haven't seen any. I had a couple of overwintering, scruffy peacocks which is also normal, but I've yet to see any more. Those are our main butterflies round here, with another one or two types.

Breeding Eider duck and Roseate Tern are very rare on the South Coast but both have bred at Normandy Marsh near Lymington.
Roseate Tern was a long way of so no sharp pics but nice to see it with chicks.
A darker Common Tern is behind.

The young robin. He has a rival though, who has a bit more colour on his chest. There's been a few 'handbags at dawn' situations recently
                  111_0597.JPG

The sparrows congregate, noisily, near the feeders every day, and at regular intervals. They're very entertaining. There's often a dozen at one time in among the planting on the boundary fence, all shouting the odds.
Healthy populations of them all around here, so we're very lucky

Really sad. I found the corpse of the large dragon fly caught in a spider's web in the roof of the conservatory. I released it the day before but it obviously came back.

Lots of flying ants emerged between the concrete garage floor and the tarmac drive. Also lots of smaller ants milling around. It lasted about an hour.

Then the thrush appeared on the lawn and was jumping around trying to catch his dinner.

                        Flying ants here too!
I was expecting the seagulls to come in from the estuary but no more than usual.

Nightmare here with the ants. They are under our very old cottage wall and into the house. Trying all sorts but all sorts aren't working. Never been so bad as the last week. Don't mind them outdoors but in the house a different story.

Awful to hear, but ants are not the worst of house visitors, so something to cling on to. Still, not nice at all for you, do hope you get something sorted.
