I wouldn't worry too much about that. Politicians align themselves with all sorts of groups and causes for photo ops and to avoid being cancelled by tiny minorities with very loud voices. When the wind changes, so do their "views". Plus, my guess is Raynor will have very little sway in a centrist Labour gov, with the likes of Reeves and others eclipsing her.

Owen Jones left Labour, didn't he? His problem, IMV, is he thinks people should want the hard left policies he wants them to want. He doesn't think people should actually be allowed a say in their futures. It is a typically elitist "I know what's best for you" view. It's why Labour has spent most of its history in opposition.

You must have a strong left-wing bias then @ViewAhead, would you say the same about a right-wing MP distributing neo-nazi literature? If not, then why not?

How old is that picture? Don't many young people toy with an idealistic view of communism? Adult life tends to serve up a reality check.

Ten years old, it amazes me how many of you will just casually shrug off the worst forms of destructive political extremism, now I get the collective political naivete that allowed Labour to be voted in.

I don't remember passing through that phase myself, but I do remember watching Citizen Smith in the 70s.
Power to the people, and all that.

          Does that count

Labour were only voted in to get the Conservatives out, nothing more nothing less.

I give it 2 years before half of those that over to Labour change their minds.

It's how the political system works these days.
Any body is better than the one we have in power at any particular point.

I think that's true overall, but I also noticed an awful lot of Reform and LibDem voters saying they weren't going to vote tactically but for the party that aligns most with their values, hopefully this attitude will gradually spread. :dunno:

To me, that seems to be a rather extreme view in itself.
When you're young, you think you know it all and you know exactly how to fix the world's problems.

I would define myself as centrist. Slightly to the right of centre on some issues, slightly to the left on others. I don't know a lot about Hope Not Hate, but my general feeling is all these groups who want to dictate how others live and cancel those who disagree with them are advocating a form of theocracy minus the religious dimension. Totalitarianism by the back door, if you like. They manage to get a hold (often only briefly) because a proportion of the population goes along with things for a quiet life. They need about 15-30% in agreement with their mantra, and 30-50% going along with little outward resistance in order to suppress the remainder actively against. When those in the middle shift to those against, the grip weakens and common sense is restored. That is why, in these days of social media, tech companies silencing those who don't agree with their "values" is so dangerous, because it takes away the option for support to naturally swing and then rebalance in the centre.

Well, I would describe myself as a moderate as a Libertarian, but you tried to present my concerns about political extremism as extreme in themselves, which is frankly objectionable and cretinous.

@ViewAhead We are closer than I thought in terms of our beliefs and I apologize for being so presumptuous, if you oppose authoritarianism then you are an ally, wherever you sit on the political spectrum. :)
