Had a bit of a smile to my self in the park this morning a semi wild area where I planted one small plant on a mole hill nearly 20 yrs ago.
This is it this morning.

 

Lovely park for walks with Ben. I can't tell what the plant is ... but it looks great.

 

It's nice park we are lucky to still have it.
The plants are a type of Silphium but can't remember which one.

 

Not heard of it but just been researching ... very interesting. Lots pf info, including ...

I was under the impression the one I planted was a N.American prairie plant.

I remember now I got the seed from Chilterns and I really wanted the compass plant, sounds a bit interesting but it was out of stock at the time.

 

Summer has arrived.

Was hoping to get a few more good photos but its been a bit overcast a lot of the time and even the one video I posted from this month in the garden has not got much sun. Typical Irish summer so far.

It must like that type of soil @simone_in_wiltshire but I've got light loamy soil, and I also tried them in pots with compost but they always die.
Never mind, I shall admire everyone else's

 

I’ve got dry sandy soil here @Michael Hewett and almost gave up on growing Heleniums until I got a tip that they don’t like their roots to dry out. I’ve added a couple of mulches of organic matter over the last 12 months, plus some bark, and I water if there’s been no rain for a few days. So far so good .

 

Sadly, my Semprevivum is flowering. It is big and very dark red colour, but has now gone pale and pushed out a handsome flower. It will then die but the pups look strong and will hopefully continue the cycle.

 

I lose Heleniums here, even when in good sites - ie raised beds [with improved clay] to help drainage. I don't think they like being too crowded, but I also think they don't like the wet cold we have. They certainly don't get dry at the roots here.
This made me laugh the other day
An odd place to grow a buddleia, you might say, and you'd be right, but it isn't a planted plant as such. I often use the cut branches from spring pruning as plant supports.
This one was put in last year, to help with the fennel that's in there, and has decided to flower
