Talking of focus, I struggle to watch a 2 hour film right through these days, mostly because I dont find them interesting, but thinking about it I do find concentrating on things more difficult these days, I was putting it down to age but maybe other things are happening.

I am the same - struggle to watch pretty much anything on TV, let alone films.

Now here is the interesting thing - this past three weeks, we have been without broadband, so of a weekend I have been digging through the odd DVD we've got knocking around, and watching those - old films like Cassandra Crossing, Silver Streak, Smokey and the Bandit, Unstoppable and so on... and no trouble watching those at all. Mrs C has been re-watching series of London's Burning (in fact, it is on right now as I type this) and even that I am picking up more of an interest in than current stuff. I think the bulk of it isn't age as such, it is just that modern stuff is utter tripe.

I can never work out what is going on in modern films or dramas.
You can sit and watch them right through and its either so boring you lose concentration or nobody explains whats going on, at the end you think what the hell was that all about.

And dont get me going on stupid special effects, just cant stand them.

Glad it isn't me. I very, very rarely watch TV if I am honest - the bulk of my entertainment is YouTube nowadays.

I've been watching a box-set of Goodnight Sweetheart, I love it.

Parallels here with music. I get it in the neck for preferring to listen to 'old' music i.e. anything before 1990. Tant pis! If the alternative is listening to current stuff, pass :dunno: I'm currently 'catching up' via Rock FM.ru, like millions of young Russians, discovering groups that I missed the first time around . There's so much good music, albeit 'old'. It seems a shame to waste your time listening to crap just to be trendy.

Plus half the time the dialogue is so mumbled and the scene so poorly lit, you can't follow it anyway.

                  True.

We'll have to see how the restriction of sales of energy drinks works out. Of course, some kids will get round it, but it's a step in the right direction and may help parents say "no".

We went to see Kevin Costner's latest film, a 3 hour epic and part 1 of a trilogy. However, I can't do more than 5 minutes of something like Lord of the Rings and even less of modern sitcoms on TV. These days we tend to watch detective mysteries together and OH will watch sport all day whilst I prefer documentaries.

As for music, back in the latter half of the 60s I used to have Radio Caroline North on all day when not in school and South in the evenings. I'm still word perfect on many mid 60s to early 70s songs. Can't stand Punk, Rap or anything esle that shouts at me. Can't get a decent FM signal in this house so I only listen in the car these days and have to say I prefer my own compilations of old, middling and new stuff for longer drives.

I do believe modern diets and technology are affecting brain development. Possum has bought herself a very fancy tower with 2 screens for gaming and personal stuff and looked blank when I warned her that there is a new phenomenon called digital dementia appearing in people who spend too much time staring at and interacting with screens. She flatly refuses to do anything in teh garden so I'm working on persuading her to sign up for surfing and/or sailing classes while she's still working and living here.

At least the plums contain some vitamins, and your innards will absorb some even if the transit time is rather fast :heehee:

Is it me or did the Obama endorsement call to Harris seem very staged ... even by US political journalistic standards? So handy the camera crews were there, eh? ;)

Because its bloody uncomfortable in my experience.

Back to TV for a moment, I used to pay £6.99 a month for UK gold, I think it was called, but then they changed it to ITVX premier, but I never asked for that.
I tried to stop my payments, but find I dont actually have an account with them to stop, so I went on their site and had to go through the process of registering before I can cancel, I think I have cancelled but not received any e mails to that effect.

Just another crooked way of extorting money, how can they change my payments without me being registered.

Its obscene how these companies work.
