I've just been looking up how much entry into Wisley is these days, £18.50 as opposed to £1, does seem a bit much of a let off.

The road works have been a nightmare, people avoid that area at all costs. Couple that with the several weekend closures of the m25 to erect new bridges and sliproads it's not surprising to us local residents that visitors to the garden have plunged. It's ongoing till next summer. I expect the rhs have been generously compensated by Highways England not just for grabbing parts of the garden for new roads but for loss of income.

We objected because it will make absolutely no difference to commute times, the only reason they are widening that junction. All it means is the traffic will flow nicely past Wisley but then join a bigger queue at the next bottleneck going into London.

:hate-shocked::hate-shocked::hate-shocked: Blimey! I'm obviously out of touch with UK pricing! I thought the increase in the price of Miracle Gro from £2.50/kg or thereabouts (when Wilkos were selling it off in August) to £8/kg was a bit much, but £18.50 just to visit a garden????

Indeed - I've just been off doing some reading. I hadn't seen anything until you posted, as I've been watching YouTube videos...

It seems there are a few strands to this one - EDL are said to have rocked up to protest as there is some sort of belief that the attacker is an immigrant (yet it would seem in reality that he is the son of an immigrant); to make matters worse, whilst there was a vigil taking place for the youngsters, a man with a machete rocked up and was (again allegedly) seen departing into a mosque.

Not needing much of an excuse, things have gone bang - not a million miles different to Leeds only a matter of days ago really. Not condoning it for a single moment, but it doesn't surprise me.

Seems things are kicking off in Southend too:

Allegedly, at least one machete has been seen at this incident too.

Like the National Trust, the RHS keep single entry quite high to get people to join if they plan multiple visits. I worked for a national museum for twenty years, the policy for exhibition admission was very similar, getting people to join the membership scheme.

Just find it ludicrous the members complain because a charity wanted to help low income people to gain access. Such a lack of awareness of others, such an egotistic move.

Actually if you watch the financial report part of the AGM, nope they haven't been compensated and they are not pleased that the process will take quite long.

The price has't increased that much. When we went to Wisley while living in Maidenhead 10 years ago, we paid already at least £15 if I remember correctly, I would even claim it was £17.
