What are we doing in the garden 2024

Finished sawing up the remainder of the three trees I took down.
Now to find a taker.

 

I watered the garden yesterday evening especially around the trees where the soil is dry. Some plants hadn't recovered after the sun was down, so it was time to give them the needed "fuel".

 

Didn't do much apart from cutting the grass, a small bit of concreting for the last bit of the shed bed, and feeding the various plants that required it.
I wasn't around in the afternoon, and was therefore able to stay out of the sun - fortunately.

Won't be around today either, so tomorrow I'll get on with a few things instead, while the weather stays dry.

 

Goodness, I note you often do a bit of heavy work!

 

After work this evening it is shed/workshop painting time. My OH has just built his own little workshop in the left hand corner of the garden, and I'm glad he has because it means he can finally start using his lathe and moving all his tools into it and out of the kitchen; but it's taking me a bit of getting used to seeing it there. I'm hoping once its painted and i've put some slabs and pots around it i will forget its there

 

Weeding (isn't there always so much to do!) - and in the process, found what I think is the only nettle in the garden. Unfortunately, I wasn't wearing gloves at the time.

Picked seven more peaches - before the wind and rain knock them off. A veritable crop, and a surprise that we got anything worth eating.

 

Watered the dog along the path, it gets dry there so I'm doing it morning and evening until this hot weather passes. Watered the pots under the kitchen window and dead headed the roses.

This year has just been a case of things I inherited here needing replaced/repaired. Fence posts, the shed etc. Can't complain really - the shed has done well for the 11 years we've been here, and many of the fence posts have been in place for a very long time. It's often just an awkwrd site to get into more than anything else. There's another large one needs doing near the house [boundary between me and neighbour] but that could be tricky.
I've always done my own DIY as long as it's something I know I'm capable of doing. I learned alot from my Dad, and my older daughter is pretty capable too, as she's often helped me with projects in the past, and she can wield a drill/screwdriver with the best of them!
Every time I use a saw, I'm reminded of holding pieces of wood for my Dad when he did various projects. It's a very comforting memory.

Today will be bits and pieces of various things, including the last bits of concrete [] if I can get the little bit round the other side of the shed cleared well enough. I can't do the last little section at the front because of the nesting bees. They'll be glad to see the back of me though!
If I can, I'll get some of the compost round from the 2nd bin to fill in the bed I'm sorting, once I've mortared in the last piece of edging. I should also put the wires back on the shed for the honeysuckle, and get some other plants in there.

 

Apologies - I missed your post about the comfrey feed for toms @Obelix-Vendée. I'm going to continue with the comfrey for mine this year, as I have plenty, but so far, everything is going as per usual, and the plants are doing well.

 

That has left me confused - more than usual.

 

They are, at least, easy to pull out @RowlandsCastle but when you're gardening in flip flops as I do the new young runners and shoots can be very sneaky at stinging bare feet.

 

I never wear flipflops.

 

It's way too hot here for boots or wellies @RowlandsCastle !
