    Good morning all.

I managed to sleep better even with the noise of the fan on. Couldn't sleep in the spare room as I'd forgotten to shut the shutters so it was as hot as our room, 31C. Our room is the biggest but it's in the old bit of this house and there isn't a loft. I think it needs better insulation but that would mean re-doing the roof.

An electrician came this morning to advice on air conditioning. Also the landing light switch had stopped working. The landing light now works. He said it wouldn't be practical to have a wall mounted air conditioner and they are very expensive. He recommended a portable one. We've just been out and bought a portable air conditioner. Hopefully we'll be more comfortable tonight. The shop had a delivery on Monday. Only 4 left and there were people in the queue after us.

The outside thermometer in the shade says 39C :yikes:

Now ---more drama with our Airbnb, have a "karen" as a guest. According to her the upstairs tub does not drain right, the toilets not flushing well. (ME-and husband were just there for a week---no issues) So lets spend money on a plumber to go out and he tells her all is normal. $$$$ SMH. I always take a bath there, it has an awesome tub, and by the time I am out of the tub toweled off all the water is gone, what the H does she want, magic water disappearance. SMH. Lets hope at the end of their stay they don't say they want some sort of discount for their fabricated inconvenience .

Anyway, cleaned off the outside wooded bench and table, both up on horses, will put first stain coat on this morning. Then off to some new meeting with community ladies at a coffee shop, curious to see what it is about. Near enough to local veggie market to get tomatoes and free range eggs.

      Later. take care all.

Back from my meet-up and we had a lovely time. Not seen some of my friends for several months so you can imagine all the gossip that went on. A few of us came home with plants. Sis and the friend I drove there were drawn to some lovely cordylines. Unfortunately there were no bulbs there but on there sale rack was a black viola called Roscastle Black. I did think of you, @RowlandsCastle, both from the name and also from its interesting growth of liverworts. See below:
        B;lack viola.jpg
I just had to have it and at £1, I don't think that could have been left behind.

Afternoon all, sitting inside with most of the curtains drawn and fan on, it's close to 30c now.

Oh, the joys of being a landlady @redstar. Some women are so very fussy these days, particularly the younger ones. Good luck with the DIY on the table/benches and hope you enjoy the coffee shop affair.

Great that you've now got an air conditioner @Busy-Lizzie,, hope you sleep better tonight.
I threw off the duvet about midnight and just put a very light weight cotton dressing gown over my legs then went back to sleep.

Glad you're having a migraine free day @Badly_Maintained but it's a pity the medics haven't yet found a reason for them. it must be so debilitating for you.

I drove OH to his physio appointment this morning, he spent an hour and a half there which surprised me but she's very pleased with his progress. The operated on leg is slightly swollen today with the bruising coming out so I'm keeping a close eye on it, especially in this very hot weather.

I've lost a bit more weight which I'm pleased about. However my very kind SIL has sent us a Cornish Cream Tea via the post as a belated birthday/get well presie, which might well sabotage my best intentions!

          Have a good day everyone.

@Ergates, I love getting my green bins full. Both are full and ready for the collection tomorrow. I've already got my eye on what needs to go into them next.
@Tui, I love the idea of your ice water bottle. Staying cool is so necessary at the moment. (I'll be whinging about the rain again quite soon I expect!).
@Busy-Lizzie, Mum and Dad had a great air con unit in their villa in Malta. It did cold in the summer heat and could then be altered to heat during the winter. Hope you and your OH get some respite tonight - you'll have to let us know tomorrow how you get on.
Sorry to hear about your migraine attack @Badly_Maintained. I love the combinations of plants you have mentioned. Just go for it is my view!
@redstar, you will have to explain "karen" to me - I'm assuming it is not complimentary but I could be totally incorrect.

Well done on the weight loss @lizzie27. I sent one of those Cornish Cream teas to my youngest sister and her OH for their wedding anniversary. Brother-in-law was wondering if I had been to Cornwall on holiday. Sis explained it carefully to him.:biggrin::biggrin:

That "slag" term has not reached the UK ??? its a description of a person who--loves to complain, or finds fault in nothing, who thinks they are a queen. Who thinks the sun rises and sets on them.

We have had Long term rental properties for years, and yes, a few, very few issues. This is the Short term type, I don't know what it is these days. Probably folks who don't normally live in a "house" that have no clue. Or someone that is not well traveled. All places are different. But, so far, we have been lucky enough, no major damage to things. A few things stolen, like why someone would take ONE pillow sham that matches the other. For my kitchen I buy all seconded handed good stuff, so if they break it, I am only out pennies. Same with furniture all second handed. People don't care, we found a water ring on the bedroom table, WHY, there is coasters right there, SMH. And we do charge a decent higher amount to get better people. But I have seen in my days professional nurses not caring about things in a staff lounge. Enough rant. onward.

Glad you slept better @Busy-Lizzie or was it just sheer fatigue from the night before? Good buy - a portable air-conditioning unit. You can use the residue water on your garden!! I bought a second hand wall-mounted air con from my electrician, who phoned me to see if I was interested. 1,500€ and installed!! It is reversible and does warm in the winter - I don't use it as I have oil-fired central heating and a large open fireplace.

Yes Karens @redstar Know the term but what does SMH mean? Did you ask her if she had cleared the hair out of the plug hole before pulling the plug!!? And there are just some people who are careless and have no regard for someone else's property. Do you not request a bond before they rent (long or short term)? That sorts them out usually!

Good on you losing weight @lizzie27 I hope the bruising on your OH's hip goes down.

Too hot, too late for sowing seeds here @Badly_Maintained I would like to start some brassicas off but I think they will just get boiled. I usually put plants in around early August for eating around Christmas but I don't think it is going to happen this year. And as for the white butterfly........!! And I probably would even get a fork into the ground at the moment!

I'm not even going to look at the exterior temperature. I'll just get another glass of cld water!

@redstar, I have never heard that expression before. I am not sure that my Australian sis-in-law or my hairdresser would agree with their names being parodied so either

The air con is just a cheap one, all that was available here to buy at once, 209€. It's working. Bedroom is now 25C instead of 31C. It's noisy, will have to be turned off at night.

At least the housework is getting done now that it's too hot outside. Floors yesterday, dusting and polishing today. Dusting upstairs tomorrow.

                          Good afternoon,
It’s been another very warm day. I managed to get the spare bed bedding dried in no time. There are clouds building up a bit now, and we are promised rain through the night and in the morning, but we’ll see.
I had my eyes tested today - not much change again, but I decided to get new glasses as I don’t feel as if my existing ones sit as well as they should. I could have got away for another 2 years without changing them, but I’ve had these 4 years. They will serve as a spare pair.
Thanks @Ladybird4, I, too, was wondering what SMH meant, but that makes sense.
I have heard the expression “Karen” to mean as described. A bit unfortunate for any Karen’s though.
It’s such a shame that some renters seem to hold little regard for the properties they rent. We’ve tended to do short term rent for our holidays, and always treat them as if they were our home. I see no point whatsoever in damaging a place (though of course, genuine accidents can, and do, happen, but that’s different). If we break a glass or plate, for example, we replace it.

Feeling ashamed of still being in bed at 10am, I got up and headed to the garden! Pretty hot out there, but I stuck to the shade and filled a big bag with ivy from the path. I tried to walk along to check how much the gaultheria has encroached across the pathway but couldn’t actually get that far. Lots of overgrown shrubs. I’ll have to take the pruners and loppers with me next time. I’ll also check what weed killers I have in the cupboard, some of the plants are having a laugh and making a play for world domination. I had two sessions outside, with a drink break in between. Finally stopped in time for a shower and a late lunch. Now relaxing in a cool nightdress, and getting all the news on the Olympics from OH, who has spent much of the day watching.

It's been another very warm day. I did a bit of pruning (so my garden bin was empty for the sum total of half a day!) and harvested some Lavender. I love having Lavender in vases and the cats don’t seem interested, unlike any other flowers or plants which they munch or attack.

It must be difficult being named Karen in this day and age. Nearly as difficult as having to deal with ‘Karens’.

Going to have quiche and salad for early supper I think. Enjoy your evening folks.

I have lived in blissful ignorance of 'karen' until today
I am signing out for today. See you all in the morning. Bestie has just texted me to call off our usual meet. She is having an extension done at her house and she is worn out with having had a hectic week since last Thursday. I should be able to catch up with her on Friday as it is our first Friday quizzers lunch.
