Too hot here to be doing anything much, but before it got too hot, we did a wee bit of harvesting:

Looking good @Fat Controller . I dug up 2.5 kilos from 2 spud plants at the weekend and yesterday OH picked our first tomato. That Buffalo Steak has finally ripened and weighed in at 470g.

Tomorrow's job is going to have to be supporting a squash plant - it has gone bananas. Never grown one before, but now very tempted to grow more next year, particularly butternut squash

We love butternut squash @Fat Controller but find that, even here, they don't mature to have the flavour of one's grown commercially. I now concentrate on the small, orange Utchiki Kuri which do well and always try some Crown Prince and one butternut just cos I'm stubborn. I grow them up supports to get extra sunshine and stop them once 3 good fruits have formed.

That might be the one we are growing - round, light orange and a few fruits on there.

Too hot to garden yesterday. 39C in the afternoon.

Thank goodness it's cooler today and overcast. I spent 3 hours this morning in the garden, weeding, planting, watering and cutting back shrubs.

We have nearly finished redoing an archway that allows us a different view of one of our Dicksonias. Made a fence from recycled blinds from our elder son. Looks good.
Harvested the cornichons that were supposed to be cucumbers. Got them ready for pickling tomorrow.

All i managed today was to pick a basin of blueberries and the same of peas but its so stiflingly muggy it felt like an Olympic endurance event. Plenty of jobs queueing up to be done but watering this evening may be the limit.

Harvested the onion crop and some accidental potatoes from the same area. Then dug over the patch, may well sow some green manure in the next day or so. Then strimmed down the nettles along one edge; had done them in June when they were over 6 ft tall, today they were back up to 4 ft. The battery ran out before I'd finished, probably a good job as unusually I'd forgotten to put anything on my head so came in for lunch and felt decidedly the worse from the sun.
After rehydrating and cooling down, picked some French beans and watered the greenhouse.

I think my Cotinus has got wilt :frown: It has been there about 18 years.
I've cut all the affected branches off but there was one which was not affected so I've left it in place.

Hello all, it’s been a while! I hope everyone is keeping well.

Picked the first of my peas this evening, which was nice as almost everything else this year has been a failure.

This morning I picked some sweet peas for a vase.

Very nice @latimer . Mine are doing well too, but I haven't got any recent pix. Must do that.
I won't get a lot done today as it's to be wet later. Might get some bits and bobs done after my walk, but it'll be potting on some more lettuce and a bit of deadheading etc.
Maybe some work over at the shed -again! It's getting there, but I'd like to try and plant a couple of things and do the honeysuckle wires, as I didn't get that far yesterday. Instead, I made sure I filled the bin, for collection today, with more hedging that had to be chopped.
I'll also need to plant the position of the wee waterbut I go as it'll go round there too.

Hope you've recovered from the heat @NigelJ . Very unpleasant for you. It's so easy to keep going when it's unsuitable, and then regret it later.
I didn't realise Cotinus got wilt @Michael Hewett . Hope it comes away again.

Thank you @fairygirl I didn't know either until I saw all the branches on my shrub drooping and looked it up. I've left the only healthy branch alone and hope it will revive, but by all accounts the prognosis is not good.
