Spotted my first purple french beans forming today!
Also picked a bit of rocket, though something's been nibbling it badly ...

Lifted the spring planted onion sets, forecast for a few dry days so as they were falling over it seemed the perfect opportunity. IMG_20240727_104858.jpg IMG_20240727_111931.jpg

Harvested our first pea beans. They are always slow to get going but once they do we usually get a great harvest. Have to wear long sleeves and gloves when picking them as the coarse leaves give me a rash.

Thanks @CarolineL , they're probably a week or two later than normal, but hopefully it means they'll still be cropping a bit later too

The first fruits are appearing on the Tromboncinos. 2024-08-02_11-21-06.jpg

Silly French bean decided to climb up a blade of grass, then got to the top and didn't know what to do next

Finally, Rhubarb! Planted this crown a couple of years ago and was giving up hope of it ever developing into something decent, but in the last few weeks it's started to romp away. Maybe a home-grown crumble is in my future after all.

So far I've eaten a couple of tiny courgettes, a single French bean and a handful of tomatoes.

@Escarpment never heard of that squash. Sounds good. Hope you get some good ones.

I grew some last year. Just looked through the photos and found this one was taken towards the end of September, so maybe I'm not so far behind this year.
Last year I had two plants in a pot that was a bit small for them, this year they're in the ground so it will be interesting to compare.

My Tromboncino covered the side of the garage last year. It's a bit slower this year but has 3 small fruit on now. I love Tromboncinos, they are so much less trouble than other courgettes which always get mildew with me.

Absolutely @Loofah , the difference between home grown, eaten straight away, and shop bought is huge.

You may not agree with me but I'm eating the last few cobs of last years sweetcorn and its still really good.
I just cut it and put it straight in the freezer, no messing about.

My sweetcorn this year isn't looking great, I think its been struggling for sunshine where I've grown it this year.

Yeah mine are short, they also tillered a lot more than usual.

The cobs have filled out quite a bit though in the last few days

Picked the last of my garlic today, a silver skin. Unfortunately they got a lot of rust a few weeks ago and are smaller than they should be. I'll just grow earlier varieties next year I think.

Picked the first onion, about half the tops are falling over now. Shame we have no dry weather forecast

Elotes are my favourite way to eat corn
