Re this NHS recommendation that a soup and shake diet of 800 calories a day reverses Type 2 Diabetes in a third of cases. Well, yes, because on 800 calories a day, you will lose weight, but much better to get those calories from eggs, fish, chicken, vegetables, and fruit, ie real food, than ultra-processed, artificially sweetened, low-fibre gunk that does nothing to train your body towards healthy eating.

In Derbyshire they have had a comprehensive badger vaccination operation in place for years and have eradicated bovine tb from all the badgers but Defra has insisted and are still insisting that they are gassed anyway. Strangely, despite the badgers in the county not having tb, and therefore not being able to give it to cows, cows are still getting tb in Derbyshire. Methinks it’s the movement of cattle around the country, not the movement of badgers, that is responsible.

This is where my heritage really comes to the surface as I absolutely love soup - especially a good broth or vegetable soup. I often make a huge pot that will feed the family for three days quite easily. Indeed, at one time, I had those really deep stainless steel pots that I would make soup in and then take it to work to share out on a Sunday when the canteen was closed - amazing how filling and warming a mug of hot soup can be.

It's not nutritious home-made soups being recommended though. ;) It is soup 'n' shake diet sachets.

I have a scoop and shake diet where, after I’ve eaten, I scoop up my drooping frontage and give it a shake over the carpet.

@Tidemark the DNA testing would indeed prove to be interesting as well as informative. Apart from anything else, it may also confirm that all humans present today are said to have 2% Neandarthal genes .

The ones lobbing rocks and setting fire to buildings probably have a much higher percentage.

@Fat Controller I would disagree that the Gaza situation should not be considered a relevant issue in UK elections. When we elect a govt. we surely have to consider what's happening in the wider world as well as at home. After all, they do "speak" for us on Foreign affairs too. Admittedly, we can be fooled by manifestos as has been proven in the past but the electorate are still entitled to take into consideration what we feel important/what matters to us when going to the polling booth.

Yes, I was tempted to say the same about the Neandarthal %age ibeing higher in some more than others  Another "ism" to add to the growing list maybe ??

The Gaza issue (or any other) should not dominate in the way that it did - indeed, that is the sole issue that saw the cretin that is George Galloway get elected, albeit only for a short tenure.

With people from all over the world now making up a fair percentage of the population I can foresee world issues having more and more effect on our general and even local elections in the future.
