No, I don’t. Point is, we’re crippled by debt. Just like any debt, it attracts interest payments which we have to pay for. As for waste, it’s a drop in the ocean compared to GDP, makes no difference at all. I bet if we scaled down from government spending to households, there wouldn’t be much to choose between them. Show me a human, I’ll show you waste.

Oi! We don't waste anything! Our local County Council are just in the process of changing our rubbish collection system so we're going to be paying more to put out a 20l bag containing approx 2kg of unrecyclable rubbish. Unused food goes to the chickens, green waste is composted and now cat food sachets are recycled, we'll be able to get perhaps 10 bags in the little wheelie bin, to reduce the number of collections. The smell and fly problems will be appalling, but apparently that doesn't matter.....
As for recycling materials, OH has been doing his bit for years by never, ever throwing anything away 'because it'll come in handy one day' :roflol:

Surely the point is if a gov wastes money, it is our money they waste. If a householder wishes to do the same, that is their choice.

When making spending announcements, govs should have to say "We will spend £X of your money on Y". When deciding not to recoup money wasted they should say "We have decided not to reclaim £X of your money". That would keep the source of the money front and centre.

          *** Please read ***

A small and general interjection from the Admin Team... With the greatest respect to our valued Members, we should like to add a polite reminder that historically, Gardeners Corner has been a quiet and very moderate community forum.

We live in contentious times and have seen this creep into some commentary across the site. Although in the main this is contained in the Moan thread plus dedicated (and bound to create upset in some) threads such as the recent election and brexit threads, we should like to ensure it is kept to the very minimum and as brief as possible.

The Admin team are kept very busy in overseeing the site and we'd appreciate it if the use of the report function was used in ANY case of postings you consider should be noted and prior to where the dialogue may escalate to people being more forceful in their opinions. In this way you are helping keep the generous community feel flow. If members wish to express their stronger heartfelt arguments, then we suggest an alternate forum, for that specific intent, would be more suitable.

With this in mind we'll be reducing the amount of posts on politics, wars, and any topic giving rise to hot headed posting, not to exclude them but to reduce their discussion to the point of raising hackles.

GP waiting rooms should be rented out as they are not being used for the purpose they
were intended to be used for. Perhaps people who have lost their heating allowance
will gather there in the Winter

Ours has a food bank collection point. Maybe they could do a soup kitchen while-you-wait thing?

Do you remember "Last of the summer wine", that started out with three old blokes hanging out in the library to keep warm.

Wide-spread consumption of those is likely to put more pressure on GP services. ;)

I'd be there every day for tomato - I love 'matty soup. For fellow tomato soup lovers, I highly recommend Lidl's own brand... it is a third of the price of Heinz, and tastes much better in my opinion. M&S version is also fairly good, and cheaper than Heinz.

I don't know how anyone can eat tomato soup, especially "cream of". It's the only thing I would be sick on. But I do love mulligatawny - a bit of spice for me and a whole tin too. Remember years ago Heinz did cheese and onion. That was good.
