Vegetable Growing 2024

@pete, that's interesting because whenever I've tried it I've been disappointed with the result.

 

My first batch are smaller cobs than usual, but those following have filled out well.

 

A nice steady supply of fruit and veg coming from the plot this last few weeks and made some very nice meals with it.

 

I usually grow sweetcorn under glass as the weather isn't reliable this far north, however this year the stuff outside is much better than the poor stuff under glass.

 

Those figs are early @JWK - our purple fig is nowhere near ripening

 

Squirrels are eating my figs just before they ripen.
I dont think I'll see any this year apart from on the soles of my shoes.

 

Around here they're mostly taking hazel nuts while they're still green. Very annoying - I don't think I've had a ripe hazelnut since I've lived here!

 

I don't have any Hazel but do find half eaten nuts and lots of seedlings in spring.

 

Second planting of Calabrese cropping well.

 

Picked first chard, kale of the year. Very slug eaten. Also picked first beetroot of the year, Avalanche F1 which is a white variety. Picked last potatoes.baker sized first earlies. Picked my onions too, they are under cover to dry off a bit

 

everything is so late this year but recent heat kicked everything off.

Where I am in Wales we've had one sequence of 5 nice days (not that hot) and alternating rainy and fine days. My veg are very slow
