Blasphemy :hate-shocked: You can't have to many Heleniums :nonofinger: . Think I'll try a new one in the back garden where SAhin Early is, I'll be moving Sahin to the front for next year.

      @Robert Bowen
You need to understand that it was 52 years ago and we worked on it over the years.

Filled in windows and knocked out walls

      upload_2024-8-10_7-6-28.jpeg

All our furniture was piled in one room for three months
      upload_2024-8-10_7-9-7.jpeg

And we slept on the floor in there
      upload_2024-8-10_7-9-55.jpeg

It was a two bedroom place so added another bedroom
      upload_2024-8-10_7-11-16.jpeg

The garden was a jungle and it took us three years to find the bottom of the garden. This was part of it after we had cut back somewhat in year four
      upload_2024-8-10_7-13-28.jpeg

Started renovating the inside. Took out the gas lights :heehee: - you can just see one of them in the middle of the wall.
      upload_2024-8-10_7-32-10.jpeg

Although we removed the broken down conservatory in 1974 we didn't get a chance to upgrade what was behind it until 2004. This was where it was
      upload_2024-8-10_7-18-13.jpeg

Later we replaced all the crazy paving and built a summer house - on the right

Many years of work and not finished until many years into my retirement. :phew:

I got my wires put in on the shed yesterday, and managed to move the storage box round to it's new site too. Wasn't too difficult in the end. It needs a really good sanding, and a little bit of attention. It was my Grandpa's, and was passed down in the family on my Mum's side, and used by my Dad for all sorts of things, including being a storage box for bedding etc, and a bench for sawing wood -the bits I often held for him.
Grandpa was in the mounted section of the army in WW1. I found some horseshoe nails in it a while ago, and I now have those in a safe place, but some will be attached to the horseshoe on the shed door. That was discovered by the washing machine man when he put in my new one a couple of years ago. How it got there - I've no idea!
Today is to be decent, although very windy again, so there's a chance I might get some more things planted, and a few bits and pieces in the front garden. The grass needs cutting, but I might wait until tomorrow to give it a chance to dry off more. More hedging can be pulled out and chopped for the bin too.

Continued to make changes by removing the herb trog, used the soil for the compost and left just the roots for the green tip. Took out the remaining salads which got now woody, left the green for the soil, and again the roots into the green bag.

I like your dress in that pic @shiney ....:heehee:

Joking apart - it's seriously impressive. I've done plenty of building/landscaping work in various properties I've lived in, but that's a bridge, and a whole estate, too far for me, even if I was much younger.
I always smile when I think of the length of time my Dad spent building/making a patio in the garden where I grew up. It was a 'new build' and I was only a few months old when they moved in. I think I was about 50 when he decided that he wasn't going to get it finished and he got someone in to do it!

That is most definitely a labour of love .
Thank you for taking the trouble to hunt out your timeline of photos and give some insight to your hard work over the years.
Very well done to you and Mrs Shiney.

No gardening yesterday , a day out at Shrewsbury Flower Show instead. Thought i would share this picture from The Dingle in the heart of the showground - its been a long time since i have seen formal planting as good as this . Sat on a bench overlooking this with a Military Band playing on the bandstand nearby, and eating a Belgian bun was very nice indeed . A very enjoyable day out , only downside was that we left before the Red Arrows made an unannounced appearance . IMG_0753.jpeg

Thanks @fairygirl and @Robert Bowen but I must admit that I/we only did a small part of the work ourselves but we did most of the planning and design. We had builders in, at various times over the years, and helped where we could. Some of the work needed proper plans and planning permission but other parts didn't.

The summerhouse didn't need planning permission (checked with Planning) so it was just sketches by us plus daily meetings (I had been retired for some years by then) with the builders over cups of tea. Things were altered and some of them became more ambitious. The builders had a good time and enjoyed the change from normal working to plan - plus they got lunch every day :heehee:

Not a lot going on here. I am still recovering from my tree pruning efforts. I had forgotten how many muscles I use when I tackle these jobs. No wonder gardening is counted as one of the best all round activities.

As long as builders get a ready supply of tea, they're usually happy!
I've done a fair bit of hands on work, including putting in back boxes for electrics etc, but like you, builders were required for the 'proper stuff'.
                      I know my place

You can if you plant them in the wrong place like I did @Perki . I divided two large clumps this year for the first time in about 4 years. The divisions that I put in full sun are fine but the others which get mainly morning sun keep leaning and imposing on other plants. I've tried supporting and staking them but they look unnatural so, brace yourself, there'll be some reworking in that border this afternoon! :thud:
