It's not Road Tax that pays for the road maintenance though, it's the Council Tax. No idea why.

I never eat tinned soup at all nowadays, it's all home made, and my favourite is roast veg with Chines 5 spice, but my younger daughter enjoys a bit of tomato soup now and again. That's probably the only one I'd use if I had an inclination. I expect we had it quite often as children because all those new 'convenience foods' came in when I was young - to 'help housewives'.
      Vesta Beef Curry anyone? :heehee:

Yes, Vesta beef curry and the other one with the crispy things you have to fry. Love them. You need a whole packet to yourself. They still sell them in ASDA. We only have these things occasionally, when I can't think of what else to cook.

Findus Crispy Pancakes @cactus_girl ? I think we had those although I do remember I hated them

I had a chat with my daughter a while ago about the Vesta products, and had a look again in Asda to see if they still had them. I don't think she believed me. When I was pregnant with my first daughter, their beef risotto was one of the few things I could face eating. Weird.
      They still have that too!
There was a Chow Mein of various dubious ingredients and flavours as well. I can still see my Mum cooking the crispy noodles to go on top

I've just thought - is that what you meant about the crispy bits?

@fairygirl yes the Vesta chow mean crispy noodles that spray all over the hob. Very salty too. Spam fritters? What about Acrtic Roll for desert? So boring.

I remember Arctic Roll too - horrible stuff! I don't think we ever had spam fritters, but we certainly had spam.
      Happy days eh? :heehee:

Scarcity of wasps? Guess what not seen a single wasp all year, then around a disintegrating pile of sticks I suddenly felt a stinging sensation in my right ankle, looked down and I have stood on a wasps nest dozens of them, some going up the trouser leg one made it to the inner thigh.

Yes I have a nest under a compost heap. I'm leaving them alone for the time being.

I'll be leaving these alone from now on, hopefully the badgers will have a go at them.

Have you got anti-histamines handy, @NigelJ? When I had a similar experience a few years ago, I came over all peculiar. One of OH's hay-fever tablets sorted me out, but I wouldn't take any chances now with stings. Anaphylactic shock can kill....

Sorry had to laugh, "I came over all peculiar" sounds like a line from an old comedy film.

@noisette47 I have applied an antihistamine cream and there are some tablets in the drawer.
Fortunately I don't seem to be allergic to bee and wasp stings.

Have you seen the latest complaints from the delicate generation? Gabby Logan said "Cock-up" live on the BBC, not just once - she said it twice. Gen Zers collapsing all over the place with a fit of the vapours! I was delighted to see that she didn't apologise for using such disgusting language:heehee:

I moan about the opposite. The head teacher of The Child's secondary school was a Mr Cockburn.

Whoo-a, open doors invitation for masses of bad teenager creativity opportunities- and none of the kids made anything out of it!

Perhaps it was because up here the name is pronounced Coburn, but I still regret the missed opportunity. Obviously, as a parent, I couldn't enlighten the youngsters so had to swallow my moment of childishness.

The young ones of today... :noidea:
