Seems we are in the same position, although I reckon mine is a shard of something we were lobbing at the dump early last week... exactly what, I have no clue. As it is today, it isn't too bad, just feels like a bit of a fat finger and only sore if I clump it off something - at least I can type with it today. Last night... oh my goodness was it sore and hot! Of course, if there was anything available to bang it off, I banged it off it. I tried a needle, as I can see where the exit point was for the gunk that was coming out last week, but that just seems to aggravate things further

I have a hawthorn thorn in the back of my middle finger. It slipped in with no pain and has sat there for at least 3 years. It really needs a knife job on it. I thought it would fester, but it seems preserved forever. There does seem to be a need for minor surgery or treatment, but no one does this. So my finger just has this bump on it.

This is about as good as I can get - you can just see the entry/exit point where it started. That started with a bump very like a spot, it then tracked back around to the top.

Thing is, if it was just stuck in there and minding it's own business, I wouldn't mind. If you look down on top of my finger the bit to the side of the nail is roughly twice as wide as it normally is.

My dad was sent to boarding school at the age of 7 in about 1915. Almost the first thing he did was to slip on one of the polished wooden floors in a corridor. Got a large splinter in his bum. No parent around to help. Too embarrassed to go to Matron. He lived with it for over 70 years. He said that it used to move around a bit from one place to another but never emerged.

That finger looks sore, @Fat Controller, but at least it’s not going blue. Blue is not good.

I do have a tiny wee bit of graphite in my wrist where a kid at school thought it would be a wheeze to break the lead of his propelling pencil on my arm... thing was, it didn't break until after it had pierced the skin. That one doesn't bother me though, it is just a wee dot that can barely be seen nowadays.

Thankfully, it hasn't gone properly blue - it was a bit bluey looking the other night, but that settled

Whenever I've been to see a pharmacist about any thing the advice has always been to see your doctor.
Some places have walk in clinics for small injuries.

People are walking around with all kinds of stuff embedded in them I guess, it's presumably if the object has bacteria on it which is the problem, causing infection.

Given long enough your body either kills the infection, or spits out the foreign body or you get blood poisoning.

A sharp pair of sterile secateurs could be the answer FC.

Much of the blame for the crazy escalation of house prices over the years can be laid on the financial institutions who allowed higher and higher multiples of earnings when deciding affordability. If they had stayed with the 2 1/2 times income, house prices would have stayed lower because
Community service is a good idea in theory, but the scumbags would probably claim it to be against their Human Rights. There was a similar scheme some years back where you would see people with 'Community Payback' tops on, doing stuff like cleaning up the parks. That was stopped because the miscreants complained about being humiliated because they could be recognised.

When my father had an infected site where a metal shard had gone into his forearm his GP told him to tape a piece of cellophane from a cigarette packet over it for a few days to draw it. It worked. I wonder if cling film would do instead. Dad had a blue line going all the way up his arm into his armpit so keep an eye on your injury. Dad's developed into almost an abcess before he let me lance it with a needle.
HEY! After all this chat I had another dig at my thorn, I have just found it and managed to wiggle it out. Oh such relief.
Good luck with yours every one!

Have you tried passing a magnet over it if it is metal? Works sometimes. Rather depends on how deep you have managed to bury it. I know they use a magnet when anyone gest a tiny metal shard in their eye.

If you can't see what's in your finger with a magifing glass then try a pair of binoculars but use them the other way around with 1 eye

Only for a very short time - I will give it another go after I have cut the grass.

I never thought of that! I'll give it a go... if I stick to the magnet, at least I will know what it is.
