Yes, scrooge is sorting that out as we speak.

You know I'm really starting to dislike that woman.

To be honest I never did like her, something about the way she talks in fits and starts, but never stops.

      Called Maggie!

Twenty cats might cost more than putting the heating on, especially given our discussion on vet bills earlier in the thread.

It would seem that those who made every effort to live according to their means and save for their future are now becoming "cash donkeys" ripe for plunder.
It's certainly true that the cost of living has increased but so have (some) incomes along with higher expectations and feelings of entitlement.
Until some brave politicians put a cap on many of the really high earners, there's always going to be a shortfall and no surprise who ends up paying for that in one way or another.
Why on earth would someone require a salary of £500 k pa ? What the hell do they spend it on ? On 2nd thoughts, perhaps best not to answer that :mute: I haven't noticed any efforts yet to deal with the ridiculous expenses system and the discounted food/drink in current practice for both Houses of Parliament.............surprise, surprise.

Don't recall ever getting a Xmas box from the government, is it paid as part of the state pension?

I dont think it just added to the pension but a separate payment, they wouldn't want you to not notice the generosity.

Last time I was in hospital as an NHS patient the food was brilliant. I don't know if that fact that I was being treated in a private hospital with the NHS picking up the bill makes a difference?
When my wife was in our local NHS hospital I went in just after she'd had her dinner delivered. I looked at it and said "What the heck is that?" OK I didn't say heck. My wife said she didn't have a clue but it looked nothing like what she had ordered. On another day her pudding sounded great on the menu "Lemon mousse". The reality was a plastic tub with a bright pink lower layer and a dayglo yellow topping. Best before date of the end of 2025. She didn't eat it.

I remember when I was entitled to claim for state benefits, I also got £10 Christmas bonus. Which was more than my wife got from her employer.
Mean old employer!! (She was, and still is, self employed).

Which kind of makes you think who started the pandemic and why, because a lot of other countries also did similar things, we just followed them.

It was meant to be a joke. I couldn't actually eat all the food at mealtimes and it was nothing to do with it being poor quality. On the day I had my hip replacement I was early on the list so back in my room by about midday. Shortly after my return they appeared with my breakfast. About 2 hours later lunch arrived, then about 5 pm my dinner! I hadn't been out of bed in all that time so hadn't really worked up any sort of appetite. I actually apologised for leaving so much.
