@redstar - the previous owners who did all the renovating had 3 kids and she was a childminder at home so they put in a big system. We emptied the Belgian one every 2 to 3 years. She also painted our downstairs loo to be like the beach - 2 smooth blue walls with starfish shaped mirrors stuck on them and sticker/calcs of tropical fish and critters on th edoor and toilet seat. The other 2 walls were painted yellow with sand mixed in to represent the sandy beach..........

Is it this one Lizzie? - Carthamus tinctorius | false saffron Annual Biennial/RHS

I hope everyone's had a good day. I've been very lazy apart form a bit of watering.

@Obelix-Vendée , don't know what a "Belgian" is. Googled comes up with the "dog" and a army tank. So assuming its a brand of a tank. Our Septic tank is in ground, so don't see it. has a tube when the truck comes by its open a hose goes down and sucks it all out. So it would seem we are talking about the same length of time to empty the tank, every three years. Guess I don't understand where the "painting " comes into play.

@lizzie27, That bouquet looks very like one I treated myself to this week, although I did get it from the reduced section! I was also wondering what those flowers were. Oddly, there were some gladioli in there too, not such a good idea as half the flowers were under water. The sunflowers are bright and cheerful though.
When my daughter was at school, the organisation of girls schools that her school was part of, had a milestone anniversary. Choirs from all the schools gathered for a big celebration of music at the Albert Hall, a very special occasion and a wonderful memory for us all.
Congratulations to all the youngsters getting their exams out of the way. Luckily, we had no relatives involved in results this year, it’s a very worrying time otherwise. Good luck with the homework, @AuntyRach!

@Ladybird4 , getting there. Piles of clothes out on bed to sort through, yah or nay.
Changed the beds, all clean sheets to return home to. Make a few phone calls, maybe we can schedule fishing trip, ones I priced out in Nova Scotia so expensive. If not , guess when we go to Key West, Florida in October we'll fish then. Yep, next trip already set up. LOL. Oct. 3. Later.

@redstar Belgian means something or someone coming from the country of Belgium in Europe. It's like saying American or English.

We had a good day with Daughter 2. Her OH has built a pergola to make a shady place to sit. 2 sofas in it and 2 armchairs.

We had a good lunch, sea bream cooked on the BBQ.

We went to look at her 2 horses up the lane one, Lena, used to be mine, she's 25 now and blind in one eye, retired of course. She keeps Daughter's horse company.

According to Douglas Adams (Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy) Belgium/Belgian is the worst swear word in the universe apart from on Earth, a small insignificant planet about to be demolished, where it is the name of a country.

Sounds as though you have had a lovely day @Busy-Lizzie. Does Lena remember you at all? I've just finished watching this week's GW and am going to sign out for today. See you all in the morning.

Many thanks @Ladybird4 and @Obelix-Vendée , identity solved. It's lasted quite well in a vase, given to me on Monday and it's now Friday. The flowers turn more orange with age.
Apparently it is also called False Saffron.

                      You live and learn.

                            Good morning all.

Not a bank holiday in France. We had ours on the 15th. Feast of the Assumption.

I wish it would rain. It's sunny. I will have to water the garden this morning as I'm baby sitting for Son 2 tonight, 5 grandchildren.

Woken by rain in the night, and it’s pretty soggy this morning. Not planning to head out anywhere this weekend, judging by reports of the usual fun and games on the M5, we wouldn’t get very far anyway.
Memories of camping holidays as a child, and with our children when they were young, have remained with me. My first reaction when seeing rain on a bank holiday is relief that we aren’t camping! Such a lovely feeling to look out from the comfort of the house, and be grateful that I haven’t got to put on my wellies to brave a trip to the loo. It does help that we live in such a lovely part of the country, and that the view out is green and full of trees ( if I squint a bit, I can blur out the weeds and the overgrown stuff)
I remember telling our son that we were thinking of having a short break at Centre Parcs, and his reaction was, why would we bother, we live in Centre Parcs! Ok, I get the point, the village here is proud and protective of its trees, and it would be hard to guess how many houses are actually tucked away behind the greenery, (although we don’t have any swimming pools, or water slides, which I wouldn’t be using these days anyway)
No gardening today, but the plants I bought recently and are still in pots, are getting a good watering. Maybe I’ll get to the sewing project I tried to start a few days ago. I’ve brought the sewing machine in to the dining room table, but that is as far as I got before being waylaid by something else. OH has settled down to watch Formula 1 practice, so I’ve got an hour with no distractions from him at least.
