Yes Gardnerianum tends to be stronger scented in the evenings I've noticed.

I have only started growing them sensibly again this year, they were left neglected for a few years so I'm trying to build them up again.
I sold some small plants back in the spring and propagation is so easy I thought I might try selling some next year, likewise the Musa basjoo.
Garden centres around here charge stupid prices for such things these days.

Ooo @noisette47 you are naughty! I like your style!
Most of these limitations with plants already in cultivation are pointless. The big problems are with the commercial growers - who brought us flatworms from NZ for example.

Interesting. I thought they were difficult, at least from seed. There is an old cottage not far from us that is heaving with them left unattended. Also another place where they are left to run amuck!

I did have a lovely scarlet red ginger lily but lost it after two or three years. Probably needed to be indoors for the winter Both of mine are scented but I agree, stronger in the evening. Mine grow outside in mid Cornwall with no care except I never remove the top growth in the autumn. I leave it to cover the tubers until mid Spring when the tips of new growth appear when I collect it all and put it on the compost heap. (It looks untidy but I don't care, it is my garden and I don't care). The stems and leaves are very coarse and strong and take at least 2years to rot down.I have no idea which varieties or species mine are, labels buried amongst the tubers somewhere. The orange one in flower at the moment has flower stems about 6 ft tall, plenty of flowers on each stem. The flower heads are about 12-15 inches long and there is a lot of lush foliage and stems.
                          I love them.

I mean propagating via division, although seed is not that difficult, but they don't come true to variety from seed.
