Could cost the Tax Payer not the Goverment they only mange the money and they are very bad at that indeed

 

I think it very much depends where you live. My sister (Outer London) can always get an appt for a non-urgent matter on the same or next day. Down here, 3 weeks for pressing problems, 6+ for anything ongoing. Be discharged from A&E with an instruction to see your GP that day - a week till the receptionist will tell you they have the notes so an appt can be made, and then a further 3 till its actual date.

The message "Go away! Don't bother us!" comes across loud and clear at every contact about anything.

 

We have run into the problem with GPs a couple of times, even though they are normally very good. When we did, as it was urgent, we called 111 and they got us an appointment at our GP immediately, twice it was same day.

 

They want everybody on benefits so we can be controlled

 

I was reading a report today about an elderly man who had been told to e-mail the surgery, not to phone. I'm guessing they thought he was a time wasting nuisance. He did what he was asked and e-mailed. Apparently the e-mail wasn't even looked at for 3 days. By the time they tried to contact him he had died, at home, of pneumonia.

 

Is it just me that gets adverts on this website? It's a thin banner just above Latest Moan from You and Me. I'm getting for example - Nike and diamonds from Birmingham at the moment.

My husband went into hospital for a turp on Saturday. He's out now and flitting about without a catheter. All of the available surgeons that day had Moslem type names. No idea which one did the dirty. I wonder if the racist rioter types would elect to wait for a racially acceptable surgeon before they went under the laser.

 

Reading more about the incident. The surgery apparently wanted people to contact them by e-mail but had no system for prioritising those e-mails based on the content, and not even a system to ensure the e-mail queue was checked regularly. Our own surgery suggests using a system called eConsult but it is only available from 7am to noon. Outside those hours its a choice of phoning and waiting, and waiting...... or calling in at the surgery. We now never phone but call at the surgery. Thankfully we have our own car as the nearest bus stops are 1/4 mile in one direction and 1/2 mile in the other. Not great for anybody with mobility problems. Before our practice moved to a purpose build medical centre and eventually merged with 2 other practices (that's another story) the surgery was less than 100 yards from the nearest bus stop. Very clearly absolutely no thought was given as to how patients would get to the surgery.

 

Shocking.

My surgery has a note on the door saying if you drop off correspondence, it won't be looked at for a week. Completely unacceptable, IMV.

 

When I've been at my surgery there appears to be lots of people working behind the scenes, not sure what they all do.
Often when I used to go there you could be in a queue for ages just to pick up a prescription or whatever.
People just seemed to have really complex problems that take ages to sort out and very difficult to find an appointment that suited them.

I don't think the problems are all on one side, they have to deal with some very difficult people.

 

My previous surgery was top class. One doctor, and nearly always got an appointment for the same day.
We moved house, but he has retired since. I'd been with the same GP for 44 years.
It had helped that I'd lived literally just round the corner for 21 years. I often went in to drop off a prescription request, so was on good terms with the receptionists.
The GP wasn't perfect, but once I'd had a seizure in his surgery, he took me seriously - as did the receptionists. I miss them all.

But my new surgery is a multi doctor surgery. I've only had to phone once for an appointment, and I was seen the next morning.

 

Dreadful @KT53 . Is it just old people and there's too many of them so - aagh just ignore them and they'll all die off and save us money?
Or am I cynical?
I'm pretty lucky here, and although I don't have to see a doc. very often, I had to phone on Monday morning about something, as my daughter was upset and wanted me to phone asap. I then had a problem with my phone running out of credit while I was talking to the receptionist -which didn't help, but when I got through again, she said that she'd booked me in as needing an appt. because of what I'd already managed to say. The doc then phones back later, which is their form of triage. It's a bit of a pain, but that's how they work, and I got an appt. later that day, albeit with the nurse, which was all that was required due to the info I'd given.
