That one is Buffalo steak , i have a dozen on that one the other ( no photo ) is Supersteak ,more tomatoes but not quite as big , half a pound upwards. All my tomato seeds failed so i bought plants at the GC which i have never done before as i always raise my own from seed - these two plants looked quite sad and miserable and were on offer for a £1 so i bought them , with low expectation , and i just cant get over the crop , grown outdoors in this mixed bag of a summer !

I planted a good mix of cherry, medium and beefsteak varieties this year. They've been incredibly slow to get going but finally have some decent looking trusses of fruit ripening on them.

I went down just now to give the chooks their daily sweetcorn and some sunflower seed and pick cherry toms for Possum's lunch tomorrow. It seems OH has been in there being "helpful".

He's taken off more of the foliage to let more sun ripen the fruit and he's taken off leaves down below and weeded a bit. That's fine but I now have no labels left! I can guess at the Orange Banana, Black Cherry, red and yellow pear and even the Ananas but how am I supposed to tell which beefsteak is which so I know which to grow next year?

I wonder if I could enlist a playful crow or a seagull to help him when he's playing golf.

They are very juicy and umami to the taste buds but quite prone to splitting due to the heavy downpour following last night's thunder storm.

Incidentally, the tomatoes start off dark purple and ripen to a coppery red colour.

I'd like those just for the colour @misterQ ! They sound like they have a good taste too though.

I've ordered some new seed for next year, and added some of those Toddler ones, and also a dark one - Garnet, which is more of a bronzy colour rather than plummy/rose coloured, but it looked a nice one to try. They might be a similar colour to the Indigo Rose ones when the latter have ripened.
Those'll keep me going for a few years.

I am resigned to no fruits from my Tumbling Tom this year. Flowers galore but that's it!

Considering how bad the tomato harvest appears to be this year, does anyone have any interesting recipes for green tomatoes please?

I would be interested in both but chutney mainly. Mine always seems to turn out as brown vinegary sludge so I'm wondering whether to try a different recipe.

eta: my daughter is a Philippa

I'll find the chutney one I use and the sauce @katecat58 and put it on for you tomorrow and you can see whether you think it's worth trying.
Nice to know there's another Philippa about somewhere
