Perhaps the 'entrepreneurs' who scammed billions of pounds during the Covid debacle could be persuaded to donate a portion of their hard earned loot to plug the black hole in the government's finances. They would still have plenty left over unless it's already been processed by the Chinese and Russian laundries.

Shame on the Labour MP's who didn't vote, gutless IMO.
I didn't vote this time around because all/most are not honest
and only in it for themselves, claiming for heating allowance.

And further, I read that the Chancellor claimed £4,000 heating allowance.

There are numerous ways in which the govt could recover the alleged "Black Hole" and more besides but they seem to prefer to go for the easier targets rather than tackle the basic issues which involves Big Business in one way or another.
Just as with the previous govt., the rich will get richer and the poor will get poorer. Not much of a surprise really.

Its fairly evident that the new government is finding out why the old government wasn't spending lots of money on public services.
So difficult, difficult, difficult, difficult, difficult, difficult, difficult decisions to be made to fill the 22 billion black hole, black hole, black hole, black hole, black hole.

I just wonder who is going to find it difficult, us or them. ;)

Oh, did I mention the 22 billion black hole.

This is the crux of the matter. Try touching their expenses or perks and see how far you get.

I suppose at least they are not spouting Cameron's "We're all in this together" lie at every opportunity.

There is no black hole in Downing Street. What there is, is unbudgeted/unplanned expenditure; normally got around by borrowing more and/or putting up taxes. Although you can also simply cross your fingers, hope the economy grows faster than predicted thereby increasing the tax revenue.

Indeed. So (1) cut out wasted expenditure (eg subsidised meals for those on a very good salary), (2) tighten the tax system to close all loopholes, and (3) collect all tax owed, eg Council Tax on empty properties owed by absentee non-Doms and others. Improve health care provision to reduce the amount needed for sickness benefits and keep your pensioners warm to reduce pressure on the NHS. Acknowledge that the huge deterioration in mental health is directly connected to the structure and function of society and address that, rather than medicating every sufferer in a bid to help them cope better.
